MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
The 2022 budget included an earmark of $30K from General Fund surplus for a Building Department vehicle—since we have been gradually green-ing our fleet, we saw this as a great opportunity to introduce another alternative fuel vehicle into the mix (you may remember Sparky and Volt, the two all-electric cars we purchased in 2020 for our Code Enforcement officers). However, for a department that needs to respond to emergencies in all kinds of weather, we decided that a plug-in hybrid with All Wheel Drive would be needed this time around. Ordered early in 2022, our brand-new Toyota RAV4 Prime in the color “Blueprint” (how perfect) arrived last week. This vehicle, which retails for $42,220, will only cost the Village $25,498. Using the NYS Mini Bid program, we were eligible for a 10% discount off sticker—we will be applying for the NYS DEC ZEV rebate this month, which will net us a $2500 check, and we will also be applying our Clean Energy Community (CEC) grant of $10K towards the purchase. Seems only fitting, since the CEC action that put us over the top for this grant was a training seminar attended by our Building Inspector and Code Enforcement staff about the NYStretch Energy Code, a state initiative that introduces a more stringent energy code for construction. We look forward to seeing Blueprint out on the roads of Ossining, sporting our brand-new Village seal, later this month.
We are excited to share that we are quickly moving along with implementing the Village’s new seal into our daily lives! By the middle of October, you will see the entire fleet of vehicles proudly wearing their new seals. This includes all of our trucks, machines, and cars. Our Recreation Department will also be updating their “flair” and will likewise display their seal on all of their fleet vehicles.

The seal will also be visible on our buildings' entry doors – we hope you find that as welcoming as we do.

Along with this, emails from Village staff have updated signatures with the new seal. What can I say …? I got into the hype as well – and you can see it at the top of my Mayor’s Message too!

Our flags and forms will have the new seal in the coming year – and our staff will proudly wear updated uniforms with the logo.
The Board of Trustees is recruiting talented and interested residents from the Village of Ossining for appointment to open positions on various Boards, Commissions, and Committees.

Our Boards, Commissions, and Committees vary in size and involvement, yet all are designed to help shape and influence critical decisions and services for the Village of Ossining. We strive to fill all open positions with residents who are passionate and enthusiastic to serve. Our staff is available to help you identify what best suits your interests.

For more information on each, please visit our website.

We thank the residents of the Village of Ossining for their dedication and commitment to service.
Please join us Sunday, September 11 @ 5:30PM at Louis Engel Waterfront Park for the annual September 11th Ossining & Briarcliff Remembrance Ceremony. All are invited to attend the ceremony. In attendance will be emergency service organizations and elected officials serving the residents of the Village of Ossining, the Town of Ossining, and the Village of Briarcliff Manor.
This week’s Legislative Meeting will take place on Wednesday 9/7 at 7:30PM over Zoom.
  • Some items of note:
  • We will begin with a Special Presentation from Rob Daniele of O’Connor Davies on the 2021 Audit report.
  • Next will be a resolution approving the selected bidder for the labor component of the water meter project, as authorized by the BOT earlier this summer.
  • The Board then has a resolution to establish a Capital Project for the 16 Croton Avenue elevator rehabilitation project.
  • Also, earlier this summer, the BOT authorized the Village to release an RFP to seek a firm to complete a Needs Assessment for the Youth Bureau. We received two proposals—both firms were interviewed with the help of members of the Youth Advisory Board, and Aperio NY was selected. The BOT now has a resolution to approve the contract and let Aperio begin their work, which needs to be complete and invoiced before year’s end as a condition of the grant funding from Westchester County that will fund the study.
