Church this Sunday

One 9:30 service of Holy Eucharist

Our bishop, the Rt. Rev. Craig Loya will be with us to celebrate the Epiphany and welcome the Magi.  We’ll bring gifts to the manger for our Baby Shower, which will be distributed by the local nonprofit, Reach and Restore.

At the end of the service, the Bishop will process out with children and youth to the Godly Play room for a quick Q and A from 10:30-10:45am. Bishop Loya and Canon Blair Pogue will join us in the Undercroft for the community forum time.

The St. David's baby shower is aimed at families or single mothers who are in need, often experiencing homelessness and transitioning to more stable housing.

Needed items include:

o   Diapers, wipes

o   Onesies

o   Footies, socks

o   Winter snowsuits

o   Crib-sized mattress pads, sheets

o   Baby blankets

o   Baby bibs

o   Feminine hygiene products

o   Car seat covers, blankets

o   Toys, especially learning

o   Board books

We will continue to Facebook Livestream the Sunday 9:30 service and upload to YouTube to accommodate for those who choose to stay home.

The St. David's Annual Meeting will take place during the community forum time on January 29th

Kids are invited to come sledding on the St. David's lawn during the annual meeting.

The Budget Presentation will be Sunday, January 22nd during the community forum.

December Vestry Update

The St. David’s Vestry met on Monday, December 19th , Via Zoom.  Allison Ferro led the group in a spiritual reflection, and we then went into discussions on the very full agenda.

After the standard business of approving minutes and reviewing the Monthly Financial Report, we were presented with the preliminary budget by Cathy Schwichtenberg and Steve Johnson.  This budget for 2023 will be finalized and reviewed with the Vestry again in our January meeting.  The finalized budget will be presented to the Congregation at the Annual Meeting on January 29th.

We also went through the Safety Plan that was presented by Cathy Schwichtenberg and Diane Curley.  This will be presented to the congregation later during a Sunday Forum.

The Vestry also received a quick look at the results of the Video Technology Survey that was coordinated by Kristina Stokes and John Galich.  There is still time to respond to the survey if you have not done it.  There will be additional discussions and discernment at a future Vestry meeting.

Important Note:  During the Safety Plan discussion, it was suggested that we lock all the doors on Sunday except for the door to the Narthex during the Church Service.  There is a concern that there is no control of those doors during the service.  We will only leave the Narthex door open on Sundays during church.  If you leave the building by any other door, you will only be able to re-enter the building via the Narthex door.

Wednesday Night Dinner

Another Wednesday night dinner will be in the Undercroft with food served 5:30-7:00pm.

All are welcome!

Welcoming the Rev. Kerri Meyer

Sunday, January 22nd we welcome the Rev. Kerri Meyer as our guest preacher and our confirmation class instructor!

The Rev. Kerri Meyer, the Executive Director of Good Courage Farm, is an ordained priest in The Episcopal Church. Before making the leap to a fruit farm in rural Minnesota, Kerri served as Associate Rector of St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Kerri's role on the farm is both visionary and practical. As both farmer and priest, she engages daily with the agricultural and spiritual life of the farm, leading worship services and faith formation programs. Though she's a Master Gardener, she especially loves tending the animals who make their home on the farm, whether livestock or wildlife.

Connected to the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement, and located on the ancestral homelands of the Wahpekute Dakota, Good Courage Farm is a place where neighbors of all faiths and none gather to work for food justice and to witness God’s renewing love for all of Creation. At Good Courage, friends of God and God's good Earth gather in worship, fellowship, community building and labor. We are blessed to be in partnership with Episcopal Church in Minnesota and the larger faith-based food and agriculture movement. Embedded in the beauty, abundance and travail of farming, Good Courage offers hospitality and space for service, sacrament and sabbath.

Health and Safety

Current Covid Situation

Covid is still alive and well. While statistics can be quite confusing and deceiving, what with time lags and under reporting of covid due to home testing, there are 2 facts that are faithful to what is currently going on in our neighborhood:

1. According to the Metropolitan Council and the University of Minnesota's Genomic Center, the metro area wastewater shows a 65% increase from a month ago measuring active covid cases.

2. Hospital beds in the state are filling up and facilities/caregivers remain strained. This is despite the signals that seasonal viruses may now be easing up a bit, but realize we are now dealing with 3 viruses.... (Flu, RSV, and COVID-the new "tri-demic").

Learning and Advocacy Opportunities for 2023!

As we enter into the new year, take some time to consider

trying something new. This next section offers 7 different opportunities.

Learn about Women of the Bible with Rev. Lindsay

Brrr....nights in January can be cold and dark indeed...but here's a way to warm them up! In Epiphany, from January 11 - February 15, on Wednesday nights from 7-8 p.m., the Rev. Lindsay Hardin Freeman will be teaching a national (Zoom) class on Ruth and Esther for the Good Book Club. Learn why these two women are so important to Jewish and Christian history. And from there, you can go right to St. David's Compline at 8 p.m! Learn more and sign up here.

Dismantling Racism Training

The Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing has really hit it out of the ballpark with this particular training. I took it a couple of months ago and it was time so well spent. They put together video vignettes for people to watch and discuss that were incredibly powerful and the rest of the teaching is just so well done. I was grateful to have the opportunity to attend this training and I hope you will consider it for yourself.

If the cost for attending is prohibitive, please contact the Rev. Katherine Lewis for assistance.

MNIPL's Reparations Learning Table

January 12 & 26, February 9 & 23, 12-1pm | Online

Learn more and register here.

ECMN partners Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light offer this four-part introduction to consider what reparations and repair mean, and why they matter to caring for creation.

"Then" is not separate from "now." Yesterday created the realities we live in today. To care for creation, we must not only divest from harmful systems. We must also repair harms we might not have caused, but still benefit from. The work of reparations recognizes the generational impact of stolen land and stolen labor. Reparations let us co-create new systems that honor the full humanity of all our neighbors.

Come as an individual or invite a team from your congregation or spiritual community. Together, we'll deepen into the many paths of repair and how truth-telling can bring about a truly interconnected world where all are loved, supported, and free.

Rally for Housing as the State Capitol

Please join our Start With Home: Rally for Housing on January 11, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. for equitable and stable housing in Minnesota! We’ll be at the Capitol Rotunda with other leading nonprofit housing organizations to make sure home is front-and-center in the minds of our elected officials as they create state budgets.

Register here to get more information. Then invite your friends, neighbors, congregation members, coworkers, and everyone else to join you! We all benefit when we can all afford our home.

Volunteer with St. David's Children and Youth!

We are so lucky to have a committed and enthusiastic group of kids here at St. David's. And that group is growing! With more kids, we need more adult volunteers. Specifically, we need a second adult to serve with Sara or Anna on one Sunday morning a month. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity!

Email Anna at [email protected] if you are interested.
