Driving Safer, Better & Longer
Join NJAAW’s Executive Director Cathy Rowe for this special episode on driving with guests Shani Jarvis, Manager of Public Affairs at AAA Northeast and Brigitte Muehlbauer, Occupational Therapist and Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist.
Driving is more than the means of getting for point A to point B – it is independence and freedom. Jarvis and Muehlbauer discuss strategies and tools to ensure you can drive safely while aging including classes, tools and assistive devices, occupational therapy and online resources. They also discuss plans for “driving retirement” and solutions for transportation when someone decides to give up driving.

LTCO Releases New LGBTQI and HIV+ Residents' Rights Brochure
In response to Bill of Rights for LGBTQI and HIV+ , which took effect in August 2021, the LTCO has created a brochure about the rights of LGBTQI residents and residents living with HIV in New Jersey’s long-term care facilities.
The brochure lists facility practices that are prohibited under the new law, explains the LGBTQI and HIV+ training that all LTC employees must receive, and provides contact information to file complaints.
A text version that can be translated into multiple languages is also available. For more information go to:

The E4 Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Disparities in Aging, in partnership with CATCH-ON, the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program based at Rush, and the Rush Center for Excellence in Aging, has developed an online educational program that provides basic knowledge every mental health clinician needs to work effectively with older adults.

The JFNA Center on Holocaust Survivor Care and Institute on Aging and Trauma is holding a webinar called Person-Centered, Trauma-Informed Program Evaluation: Principles, Practices, and Strategies.
Person-centered, trauma-informed (PCTI) program evaluation is a methodology that recognizes the likely history of trauma in program participants and actively strives to avoid retraumatization in all aspects of an evaluation's data collection and utilization. This webinar will discuss the principles of PCTI program evaluation and examine a PCTI evaluation planning tool with examples from 2 agencies, Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst and Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Greater Philadelphia.

Creative Aging Initiative Guidelines Now Open
The NJ State Council on the Arts has recently released the guidelines for their Creative Aging Initiative (CAI) grant program. The CAI grant provides $10,000 to eligible arts organizations, libraries, veterans homes, and senior and community centers to cover costs for two 8-day residencies for New Jersey seniors/aging adults.
The deadline to apply is September 29, 2022.
