Quilts of Valor

Monthly Dinner with Special Guest Mary Ann Carnegie,
Wednesday, August 6th,
No Host Bar starts at 6:00 p.m.,
Dinner starts at 7.p.m.

Gold Coast Quilt Guild

Mary Ann Carnegie from Gold Coast Quilt Guild will be our guest speaker for our monthly dinner meeting. She will speak on "The Quilts of Valor Program" that the Guild has been involved with since 2011.

Quilts of Valor is a national, non-profit foundation located in Washington, D.C. The main objective is to cover all service-members and veterans touched by war, physically or psychologically with patriotic quilts.

These quilts are a tangible way to show the recipients that we thank them for their service, sacrifice and valor.

Nine Quilts of Valor will be presented to members of the museum that served in World War II. A short bio of each recipient's service will be presented along with a quilt. EWM members whom have served during World War II and will be recognized include:

Harold Bauer, Richard Blomquist, Hugh Early, Karl Haeuser, Charles Harber, Bill Kitchen, Jack McLaughlin, Chuck Miller, Ray Passon, Al Schade and Walter Stacy.

Dinner is catered and open to the public ($17/person), reservations are required prior to 6 p.m., Monday prior to dinner, either On-line HERE or call 805 296-1935.

1966 Vought RF-8G Crusader (F-8)
Anyone visiting the museum over the past ten years could not help but notice a rusty, unrestored fuselage of a bulky fighter jet that obviously has seen better days (see picture in header).  Prior to finding a home at Estrella Warbirds Museum, it languished at a city park in the bay area, having gone through years of not being "childproof". It suffered many years of abuse. After arrival at EWM, it was one of those restoration projects that seemed to always find its way to a lower priority position on the list of "must restore now".  But no longer.

In an amazing feat of dedication, hard work and much attention to detail, the volunteer restoration crew is almost ready to finish off an incredible job of restoring this static aircraft display to a position of glory and pride.  A special thanks to everyone, who over the years, has played part in restoring this Crusader! This includes, but not limited to: Jacob Anderson,  Ron "Bull Dog" Boyte, Mike Brophy, Gary Corippo, John Edell, Keith Dekker, Dave Geiger, Tom Gorman, Chuck Kincannon, Rob Kinnear, James Messineo, Jeff Quaide, Gary Woodall, and a host of others (forgive me if I didn't get a name).   We are so proud of your incredible work! More info on this aircraft can be found here.
Great Growth In The Works!
Estrella Warbirds Museum
There are currently three sets of drawings pending approval from the City of Paso Robles for projects which will enhance our expansion program in the near future:

A 30 foot expansion of Hangar 1.  This will allow for additional storage of display aircraft.

A 40 foot by 140 foot expansion sponsored by Richard Woodland to the Woodland Auto Display.   An already fantastic collection of classic and racing history is set to get even larger and more extensive!

"The Red Ball Express" building, sponsored by Herman Pfauter. Herman came to this country from Germany in the 1950's, lives in Santa Barbara,  and is bringing his collection of World War II Army vehicles to Paso Robles! The collection includes numerous vehicles that were in the conflict after the Normandy Invasion.

Estrella Warbirds Museum is extremely fortunate to be associated with so many incredible individuals who share the same goal and dream which allows preservation of the past to provide  future generations to see and realize that our way of life did not come without sacrifice. We are so thankful to everyone whom has contributed to the museum to make these projects possible!  Stay tuned for developing  news!
