August 2022 Newsletter
Dear FMS Families,

It's that time again....only 4 weeks until the first day of school on September 6! Our staff and I are excited to see you and your children again soon. If you haven't reserved your child's spot, please do so right away! Space is limited!

We are working hard to keep our standards of education high while making our environment as safe as possible. Keeping our students and staff safe will require effort on everyone's part. We know that COVID-19 is spread through close contact with infected individuals. Keeping sick students at home, getting vaccinated, wearing masks, washing hands, and avoiding large gatherings are all ways we can care for one another and keep our school safe and open. COVID-19 vaccines are strongly encouraged, free for anyone ages 6 months and up, and readily available.

As of 8/11/22, the Dallas County Health Department advised that the CDC has updated their guidance for early childhood settings. Please, be advised of the following FMS COVID policy changes:
  1. Quarantine is no longer recommended for people who are exposed to COVID-19. People who are exposed to COVID-19 must wear a well-fitting mask at school for 10 days regardless of vaccination status or previous infections and get tested. Keep masks on hand for your child (ages 2 and up).
  2. Anyone infected with COVID is prohibited from attending school and must isolate for at least 5 days. Isolation may be ended after 5 days if the following criteria are fully met: fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication AND symptoms have improved. Continue to wear a mask at school through day 10 or receive 2 negative antigen tests within a 48 hour period after day 5.
  3. Masks are now strongly recommended and encouraged. At a high COVID-19 Community Level, universal indoor masking in schools is recommended, as it is in the community at-large. Dallas County is currently listed as "high" community spread. We fully support anyone choosing to wear a mask at any level of community spread. People who have a household or social contact with someone at risk for getting very sick with COVID-19 (for example, a student with a sibling who is at risk) may also choose to wear a mask at any COVID-19 Community level. Masking requirements at school are subject to change according to guidance from the CDC and the Dallas County Health Department at any time and may be based on infection rates at our school or in the community. If there is a substantial outbreak of COVID in our school, masks will become mandatory for all persons.
  4. Students or staff who come to school with COVID symptoms or develop COVID symptoms while at school will be asked to wear a well-fitting mask while in the building, be sent home, and encouraged to get tested. Persons with the following symptoms are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from attending school: fever/chills, cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle/body aches, headache, new loss of taste/smell, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

We will continued to use a layered approach to preventing COVID. We will continue to use medical grade HEPA-13 air purifiers in each classroom, cohort classes, limit use of shared school supplies, encourage good hand hygiene and fully support anyone choosing to wear a mask.
