Hiking

“Streams of Awareness” is the web title at the top of each devotional you receive each week.   It was a name that the Lord  put on my heart and I loved it at the time and now I even understand it more.  And over these past few weeks, I have chosen a hiking path of a few miles that follows the Eagle River.  The trail is dusty and rocky and surrounded by the river on one side and the forest on the other. It is mostly remote but there are a few people, every once in a while, walking their dogs (unleashed and free to roam) and others who just are out for a hike. The outing is peaceful, beautiful,  capped by nature and the sounds of bugs and birds and the river are tantalizing.

There are a couple of  rugged benches, stretched between the miles and they are strategically placed to face the river. And several days, I just stopped and sat ..prayed a little, thought a little and realized that “streams of awareness” had more meaning than I had expected.

For as the river flowed, the currents changed; at times the waters were gently moving over the bedrock bottom, while other times the currents were so strong that he waters were racing over the boulders creating a water fall of sorts resulting in fast moving rapids that were carefully contained by the river banks.  The changes were often subtle while others were unexpected surprises.  But no matter the speed of the flow, the waters continued to move only in one direction.

As I thought through the ebbs and flow of the river it occurred to me that life is much like that flowing river.  Our streams of consciousness flow continually.  Sometimes we are at a gentle bypass, where other times we are surprised by the speed that life is going.  We are surprised by boulders that we have to overcome and rapids that catch us off guard.  But after the rush, the gentle waters again flow with calmness.  There is a rhythm to life… not always one we would choose but it is one that God has devised and allowed for each of us personally.

There are gonna be rough waters, and fast moving events that catch us off guard, but the waters will continue to flow in one direction; the one that God has created.  As long as we have God as our guide, we will ride the currents that are upon us and God will give us the strength, the courage, and the awareness to persevere, and trust his way.  For as our water of life flows; there is embedded in each of us a secure foundation of faith and trust in God that we can hold tight to.

It was just a hike on a dusty trail; tempered by rocks and roots and surrounded by nature and bordered by a beautiful river. But God, whenever we take time to quietly seek his face and listen to his whispers, he fills our souls with his presence and his peace. And oh what a blessing you will find..I did!

The excerpt below is taken from my website “Streams of Awareness”

“God’s little treasures are splashed in our everyday life. But sometimes we get so busy with schedules, calendars and to-do lists that we lose track of the blessings that Christ has laid before us.

If we just take time to pause for a bit and let God stream his thoughts into our thoughts, fill our hearts with his Spirit and refresh us with his love, we will feel His presence and gravitate to his grace.”

Blessing to each of you!

Praise God wherever you are or whatever situation he has allowed you to be in...for his Glory will shine through!
