From the Pastor

Greetings Parkway Friends and Family!

It might be safe to say that everyone who prayed for rain a few weeks back have elevated themselves to prayer warrior status! It feels like we went from one climate extreme to another; from drought to drowning. I’m not sure what seems to be more polarizing, the weather changes or people’s opinion on the weather changes.

My parents prayed for rain to help with the needs of their cattle and goats. At one point they were having to fill up multiple water troughs a day to ensure their animals were properly hydrated. I have heard other people pray for the rain to cease. It causes flooding in their neighborhoods or makes it difficult for them to see while driving. The rain causes a lot of outdoor labor projects to be postponed.

The same situation, and yet different responses. The answer to one’s prayer can be perceived as a burden to another’s prayer. It reminds me of how we are asked in Philippians 2:1-4 to be aware of the needs of others. When we gain tunnel vision and only focus on our personal needs, we unknowingly place blinders over our hearts and remove the ability to acknowledge the needs of our neighbors. Being aware of others doesn’t necessarily change the rain but can change the way we respond to the rain.

A few updates on what’s happening at Parkway…

Midweek Ministries

This Wednesday (9/7) Midweek is back! At Parkway, we believe it is important for believers of all ages to come together for both fellowship and discipleship opportunities. On Wednesday nights we offer a snack supper from 6-6:30pm in the atrium of the Ministry Center for anyone who wants to attend. These meals are provided by volunteers in hopes that it will help alleviate any scheduling challenges that prevent people from being able to attend a weeknight Bible study. After supper, there are age level Bible studies and activities provided across the campus from 6:30-8pm!

Children that are ages infant-5th grade will check-in at the Children’s Ministry desk near the elevator.

Students in grades 6th-12th will head upstairs to check-in with our Student Ministry for games, worship, fellowship, and Bible study.

Adults will meet in room 126/128 for a four week Bible study over the book of Jonah, led by Chris and Victoria Foss.

Joining Sunday 9/18

If you are interested in joining our Parkway family by becoming a member, we are having a Joining Sunday on 9/18 during both services. We understand that people do not take commitments lightly and need to be informed of what “becoming a member” entails. More importantly, what becoming a Christian means. If you have questions and are interested in taking this next step, please reach out to me at [email protected]

As always, if you have any questions about Parkway and the ministries we offer, please contact me and I would love to connect you with service and growth opportunities. You can always visit our website or Facebook to learn about upcoming events/ministries or to see what our people have been doing.
