Construction Update:

Santa Fe Drive Corridor Improvements Project - Western Phase

The City of Encinitas is continuing construction on the south side of Santa Fe Drive between the Nardo/Mackinnon and Bonita/Windsor intersections for the Santa Fe Drive Corridor Improvements Project. This current section of work is projected to last four to six weeks, building new reverse-angle street parking and landscape improvements.

Upon completion, the work will continue moving easterly on Santa Fe Drive up to Evergreen Drive. For your safety and convenience, we kindly ask that you observe all construction signage and remain mindful of any traffic delays or lane adjustments during this period.

Construction Progress:

Completed work: The City's contractor has completed the new concrete sidewalk and bike lane improvements on the east side of Mackinnon Avenue, as well as the south side of Santa Fe Drive, between Interstate-5 and Nardo Road. New pedestrian and bicycle facilities are being constructed along the entire stretch of the project.

Current work: Work is currently active between Mackinnon Avenue and Windsor Road, where the City's contractor is constructing new reverse-angle street parking, drainage/landscape improvements and eastbound bus stop.

Upcoming work: As work nears completion between Mackinnon Avenue and Windsor Road, the contractor will move easterly towards Evergreen Drive, building a new concrete sidewalk and bollard-protected bike lane.

What to Expect During Construction:

Traffic control: Santa Fe Drive has been narrowed to two lanes of traffic to allow construction crews to work on the proposed improvements. Please expect traffic delays and speed reductions in the area during this period of construction. We ask the community to continue adhering to all construction signage when traveling through the corridor.

Street parking: Parking between Mackinnon Avenue and Windsor Road will be restricted for the next four to five weeks. The proposed angled parking spaces will increase available street parking by more than 30%.

Construction hours:

  • Weekdays: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. No evening or weekend work is expected.
  • Traffic control on Santa Fe Drive will remain in-place 24/7 for public safety.

School drop-off/pick-up at San Dieguito Academy:

  • Expect traffic delays for east-west travel on Santa Fe Drive during morning drop off/afternoon pick-up.
  • Alternative Route: Consider taking Melba Drive via Regal Road and Evergreen Drive for school drop-off/pick-up.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to exercise caution around the active work area.
