New multi-use shelter offers a safe place during an emergency
Middlesex Centre Fire Services have added a multi-use utility shelter to their specialized equipment list, thanks to a Community Emergency Preparedness Grant from the Government of Ontario.

The portable shelter, which sets up quickly like a tent, can be used to protect those affected by an emergency or a disaster from the heat and cold, to support firefighting operations, and to serve as a mobile command centre.

Outdoor Fires & Yard Waste
It’s that time of year when we all want to get outdoors and prepare our yards for spring.

Remember that while controlled recreational fires are permitted in urban areas of Middlesex Centre, burning yard waste is not.

In rural areas, some yard materials may be burned with specific rules in place.

Check the Open Air Burning By-law to make sure you are following the guidelines, and to keep yourself and your family safe

Planning a shed, deck or pool? You may need a building permit
Thinking about spring building projects?

If you are planning to build an accessory building like a shed or detached garage that is larger than 15 m2 (160 ft2) or more than 1-storey tall, or a deck that is more than 0.6 m (2 ft) above the finished grade, you likely require a building permit.

Pools more than 0.6 m (2 ft) deep will require a building permit and you’ll need to meet specific fencing requirements.

Building permits are important to ensure your shed, deck or pool complies with local zoning and meets the safety standards set out in the Ontario Building Code.

You can apply for your building permit through the Cloudpermit system on the municipal website. You’ll also find guides and other information to help you with your projects.
