Lord,

I rejoice in your beauty that shines forth in the colors and smells of Spring. I am grateful for the renewal I feel as each new month begins.

Amen.

Your Sanctuary of Peace

We have enjoyed sharing The Grotto with you for the past 30 days as part of our Centennial celebration. We hope you have enjoyed this month-long feature, and found joy and peace as you viewed the photographs of our very special sanctuary.

Today: April showers bring May flowers

The Portland Rain

While Portland's annual rainfall is approximately 36 inches, which allows our spectacular evergreen forests to thrive. However, the months of April and May are full of sprinkles and sunshine. And that allows color to scatter all around the lush forest floor.

At The Grotto, the sanctuary is beautiful whatever the weather.

Spring Sensations

Spring is a time of year when you can feel fully immersed in the gardens. The colors are vivid, the smells are refreshing, the brooks babble, and the birds sing wherever you go.

We hope to see you all at The Grotto to enjoy the gardens very soon.

The Peace Garden

The Peace Garden, located in the Upper Gardens, is scenic throughout the year, but in the spring, the sensation of new life is refreshing and inspiring.

It is hard to believe you are in the middle of a city when strolling the paths, or sitting on a bench, in the Peace Garden.

As April turns to May, the lush grounds spring to life.

The Grotto's Famous Rhododendrons

In April and May, The Grotto is exploding with color from the hundreds of rhododendrons on both the lower and upper levels.

The variety of colors is amazing.

The Rose Garden

This garden, located in the Upper Gardens near the Monastery are just beginning to come to life. Over 200 rose bushes grace the garden and bloom from spring to autumn.

Your Sanctuary of Peace

We hope you have enjoyed the 30-day feature "Your Sanctuary of Peace". Please stay tuned next month as we share more scenes from The Grotto.
