FAST Testing

Normandale students just finished their first month of school and first round of tests for this school year. Grades K and 1 students completed the FAST Early Math test. Grade 2 students took the aMath test and grades 3-5 students completed aMath and aReading tests. All of these assessments give our teachers good information about our student’s learning needs. In the coming weeks look for additional information about accessing your students FAST scores.

Next week teachers and Normandale’s reading and math specialists will meet to review these results and plan for instruction. This data and these meetings are integral parts of Normandale’s Continuous School Improvement Plan. For most students, regular classroom instruction will help them continue to make progress in reading and math. Other students may need extra practice and/or targeted interventions. Ultimately, our goal is to help “each and every student discover their possibilities and thrive.”

FOOD PROGRAMS

VEAP & Every Meal

Edina Public Schools partners with two food programs to help support students coping with food insecurity. The first is VEAP which provides weekly food bags with daily snacks per child. This year we will continue to offer pre-packed bags of nutritious and student-friendly snacks/foods for schools to distribute as needed. This food program is intended for those households that are low income. If you are interested in this food program, please email our school social worker at [email protected] to request the weekly snack bags which are distributed on Fridays into student backpacks.

The second program is Every Meal which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to fight child hunger. They focus on filling the food gaps children face on weekends, extended breaks, and summer when they’re not able to access school meal programs. Every Meal provides children and families experiencing food insecurity with access to good food. This program is not income dependent. Each week, tailored bags of food are distributed to students in their backpacks on Thursdays. If you want to sign up, please fill out this form

MERCI BEAUCOUP

Special Thanks and Gratitude

  • Jen Reiner, Chris Larson, Kristen Kapsen, Liz Seaman, Melissa Holten & Lauren Warner for helping out on Picture Day
  • Jacqui Hartung for leading the Discovery Kitchen program, as well as all past and future volunteers in helping to make this program a success

In the spirit of gratitude, our kids signed "Merci!" cards for Normandale staff, Edina Transportation, EPS district staff, Edina Police Department and OLG staff. Despite the unforeseen school day interruption, our community acted swiftly to ensure our students' safety. Because of your generous donations throughout the year and last week, we were able to send gifts of gratitude to all the groups that helped to keep our students safe and the day run as smoothly as possible.

In the words of Mister Rogers, "Always look for the helpers. There will always be helpers."

INTERN INTROS

PAULINE RAPHEL

Kindergarten – Abdo

Hello. I come from a small village not far from Niort, in the Deux Sevres region, where I live with my family. My mother, Helene, works in a supermarket and my father, Éric, is a school cook. My older sister, Manon, is a data analyst. I'm studying to become a school teacher in Poitiers. I play handball on a team in Poitiers. I also like to go out and play tennis with my friends.

Favorite Foods: I don’t necessarily have a favorite food, but I prefer savory to sweet, and I’m not picky when it comes to taste.

In The US: I’m excited to discover lots of

new things: culture, people, nature and

discovery! I hope to become bilingual and discover American culture and new people with whom I can keep in touch.

Your support means greater academic opportunities for all students, today and into the future.

We are fortunate to be part of the Edina community that has a strong, valued and well-respected school system. However, to protect and enhance the value of our homes and property and the quality of life we enjoy, we must further invest in our public school system.
