RCAHD UPDATE on efforts to improve
Maternal and Child Health
August 1-6 is National Breastfeeding Week, a chance to spread awareness about the health, nutritional, economical, and emotional benefits of breastfeeding for both mom and baby.

Locally, our RCAHD nurses and WIC nutritional staff are trained to help support breastfeeding women who meet certain income eligibility requirements. Visit the WIC page or call us to learn more.

In addition to direct support for new moms, other local programs to improve maternal and child health include:

  • Safe Sleep program- Learn the ABCs of Safe Sleep on our website and LIVE at our in-person classes. Learn how you can attend a class on safe sleep and receive a free pack-n-play and infant sleep sack. Day and evening times are available.

  • Car Seat classes help new parents learn the proper safety seat use for children. Free car seats and booster seats are also available for income-eligible families.

  • The Family Planning program provides individuals with the ability to decide if they want to have children and if so, how many and how far apart they want to space them. Services include exams and counseling. Costs for services are based on a sliding scale and some insurance plans are accepted.

Finally, our Population Health team has recently started a process to work with community partners to address teen pregnancy and help local teens stay safe.
