Rabbi Silvestri's Round Up
|
The culmination of ספר בראשית, the book of Bereishit, brings the life of יעקב, Yakov, and יוסף, Yosef, to a close. As he sees his final days ahead, יעקב takes time to give blessings and words of direction to his grandchildren and children. Surprising, the only grandchildren that are part of this story is that of יוסף. Why does the Torah highlight only them at the exclusion of all those who traveled down with him to Egypt? Were they not worthy of blessing as well?

Rodeo Art Competition
This year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Competition was exciting and thrilling for all the students. Each grade had a theme related to a topic of art they studied in their art classes. Students each developed, planned, and executed their own artwork starting in 2nd grade. Each grade has a first, second, and third place winner for their level. 10 winners were selected to move on to the Houston private school competition that will be held at the NRG Center. These beautiful pieces of artwork will then be given ribbons based on their school rankings and hopefully chosen to win a prize at the city wide private school competition. For a list of winners please click here.

Blessings
ECE4 is back into the rhythm of school this week. Morah Aviva introduced the Winter/Penguins unit and the children are having a winter blast! Some of the activities in the centers included a puffy snowman cooperative mural, shaving cream fun, dressing up in winter gear, sorting winter items and finding pairs of gloves, mittens, and toe warmers. For Parshat Vayechi, Morah Aviva explained how Yakov blessed Yosef’s sons by putting his right hand on Ephraim’s head and his left hand on Menashe’s. She also described the brachot, blessings, that were given to each of the twelve sons which are the 12 tribes of Bnei Yisrael. The students worked diligently creating their own drawings of Ephraim and Menashe. After Morah traced their hands, they decorated them and pasted them on the paper in the same way that Yakov placed his when he gave his bracha.

Leadership
Rabbi Silvestri led an engaging seminar with the Yeshivat Hakotel Leadership program in Eretz Israel. Rabbi Silvestri, an alumni of Yeshivat Hakotel, spoke about the power that leadership can have on an organization and the ways that our stories mold us into the leaders we are today. This is the second year that Rabbi Silvestri has given this seminar session as we continue to build strong relationships with our Yeshivot and Seminaries in Israel.

Senior Trip to Israel
Our seniors departed on their much anticipated Senior Trip to Israel this week! The annual RMBA trip that the senior class takes is a culmination of their Judaic Studies and Hebrew learning coming to life. In addition to touring the country's historical landmarks, having fun bonding with each other and hiking, the students have the opportunity to visit gap-year programs, yeshivot and seminaries. On their first full day today they went on a bike ride with beautiful views overlooking Gaza and explored Kibbutz Beeri. They had a special surprise reunion with former Bnot Sherut Hadas and Hila, and explored the Salad Trail at Talmei Yosef. They had the opportunity to learn about the Iron Dome, and hear from Israelis who make Mezuzot and Menorahs out of the fallen Kassam rocket materials. Stay tuned and follow their journey on our Instagram page!
