SC4K is On the Move to Serve More Families in Need
Shoes and Clothes for Kids is moving to the Community Resource Center at South Waterloo (CRC) in December, and we couldn't be more excited!
As an anchor partner, SC4K will occupy 14,203 square feet of the facility, including plenty of room for an expansive Partner and Teacher Free Store, welcoming volunteer spaces, five convenient, indoor loading docks, inventory warehousing, and staff operations.
Formerly the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, the CRC combines a grocery store-like food pantry with other critical non-profit services to increase economic stability for families in Greater Cleveland.
Families will have access to 14 community partners in addition to SC4K, including educational and career development services, housing services, legal aid, and health care services through MetroHealth – creating a true wrap-around service offering for families in need.
|
|
In addition to SC4K’s ongoing Legacy Program services, we will begin to provide on-demand access to shoes, clothes, and school supplies directly to families who are utilizing the other services at the CRC.
“This transformative development marks a significant milestone in SC4K's journey towards ensuring that students in Greater Cleveland have the tools they need to engage in learning and thrive in school,” explained Monica Lloyd, SC4K Executive Director.
The move will elevate our mission and expand our reach through greater visibility and accessibility! Best of all, our new home will be inviting space for the volunteers we rely on to accomplish our mission. We are grateful to those who give so generously of their time and talent!

Annual Teacher Book Giveaway Helps Teachers Foster Love of Reading
|
On Saturday, October 7th, teachers and school support specialists participated in the Fall in Love with Reading Book-Themed Teacher Shop!
We are grateful to The Stocker Foundation for their generous support of this event. It was designed to help teachers engage their students in reading, at school and home!
Teachers chose books from hundreds of titles and reading levels to help supplement their classroom libraries! Individual volunteers and members of CWRU Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity were on hand to help shoppers check in & out and load up their cars!
|
|
READ HOW TEACHERS WILL USE THE BOOKS:
“There is a shelf outside my classroom where I put the books and the kids come and take whatever they want. They take them home. I encourage older siblings to read to the younger ones.” - Krissy Curtis, Tremont Montessori, Cleveland
“The books I got today are going to go in my classroom....It helps bring a diverse group of books into the room [to] satisfy all their different reading levels and different needs.” - Caitlin Iacobucci, St. Ignatius-Antioch Elementary School, Cleveland
“What today means to me is giving our scholars diversity books, comedy books, and also thrilling books to keep them engaged in reading.” - Ms. P (Princess Box) – The Great Inspiration Academy, Warrensville Hts.

Local Companies Donate Backpacks of Supplies
in a Creative Way
|
Back to School isn't the only time new backpacks are needed. Last year, during fall and winter, we provided 7,547 backpacks to kids in need. Year round donations can really make a difference!
In September, the US Bank local Affluent Wealth Banking Team participated in team-building event at their downtown offices. They donated new backpacks, each stuffed with core school supplies and a handwritten, encouraging note to brighten the recipient's day!
Earlier this month, the team at Rockwell Automation also participated in a "Backpack Build" filling backpacks with new school supplies.
Thank you , US Bank and Rockwell Automation who together donated 375 stuffed backpacks!
