Final Soft Skill Credential Day of Fall

Friday, November 10 is the final Credential Day of the fall semester. There are no WTMC classes but WCC classes that meet on Fridays are in session.

Soft Skills are a foundational piece of WTMC culture. Since 1997 we have supported high school students as they navigate the college environment. We know that soft skills are vital to student success. Since the first credential day, students have been practicing good soft skills with the goal of earning a soft skill credential in all WTMC classes.

Each Credential Day, all WTMC educators, advisors and counselors gather to discuss the progress of every student in WTMC classes. This ensures students are ready to move to the college level and gives advisors insight into their students’ needs and strengths.
A Guide to Soft Skill Grades

Students can expect to see one of the following soft skill grades for each class in PowerSchool:

  • R = Ready: The student has demonstrated college-readiness with BOTH academic and soft skills and is ready to move up to the college level in this subject.

  • S = Satisfactory: The student has demonstrated good soft skills but will benefit from more academic support in this subject.

  • N = Needs Improvement: One or more soft skills needs work, or the student needs to be more consistent with soft skills in this class. Check PowerSchool for teacher comments, attendance or missing work.

*If you haven’t spoken with your student(s) about their soft skills, this is the perfect time.
Career Pathway Panels

WTMC’s annual career exploration event is November 21, 9:00 - 12:00, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break. (Students dismissed at noon. WCC classes are in session.)

Every fall, middle college students attend two panels or tours of their choice filled with current WTMC students, alumni, and WCC program advisors to learn about the college programs and career paths they want to explore while at WTMC. Students work with their advisors in BASE Seminar to select and prepare for their panels.
9th Graders attend a special WTMC Alumni Panel event and will attend Pathway Panels next year.
Pathway PANELISTS Needed!

Students and their experiences in college classes and programs are what make this event meaningful and authentic for our new students. 2nd year and above students are encouraged to volunteer to be panelists.

This is your chance to give back to your school!

Family Survey

Parents & guardians received an email with a link to a survey that is part of our school accreditation process.

We’re hoping for 100% participation from our families. If your family hasn’t completed the survey, please do so by November 10.
Winter Weather Ready?

WTMC uses the WCC Alert system to send information about snow days or other campus emergencies.

Students should log in to the WCC Gateway to be sure they and their parents are signed up to receive notifications.
BASE Conferences

In the coming weeks, families of 9th grade and 1st year students can expect a message from their student’s BASE advisor about scheduling a BASE conference. Advisors will communicate their availability with instructions for scheduling. Note that Dec. 1 has been designated as a conference day, but advisors may have other availability.

At WTMC, conferences are student-led. It’s important that students are able to reflect on, and talk about, their own progress and goals. BASE advisors will provide information about how the conference will be structured and what families can expect.
