The weekend of July 21 and 22, WT alumni gathered in Ruidoso, NM
for a weekend of fun and networking!
The event was hosted by the WT Alumni Association,
who welcomed alumni and friends to attend the event.
The weekend began Friday evening with a Meet and Greet event at Anejo Cantina.
On Saturday, the attendees had lunch in the 440 Smokehouse
of The Ruidoso Downs Race Track.
After lunch, attendees moved to the race track to watch the live races!
The Alumni Association has opportunities for volunteers to help with alumni events, Homecoming activities, and volunteer opportunities that connect alumni with students,
such as mentoring students.

Watching the horses run was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed connecting with WT Alumni.
We’re looking forward to going to WT Day in Ruidoso next year.”

Faculty Earn Development Grants | |
Congratulations to Dr. Maitreyee Mukherjee, Assistant Professor of Biology,
and Dr. Rebecca VanderLeest, Assistant Professor of Geology,
for being awarded development grants through WTAMU's Office of Academic Affairs!

Dr. Maitreyee Mukherjee's grant
helped support her attendance at the
Tiny Earth Partner Symposium
held in June at the
University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Dr. Rebecca VanderLeest's grant
will help support her attendance at a workshop and will help construct
a course entitled
Geology in Our National Parks.

WT Equine Industry and Business Faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni all played a part in assisting with National Equine Championship events during the month of June. They assisted with the American Quarter Horse Association Versatility Ranch Horse World Championship, the American Paint Horse Association
World Championship Show and Judging Contest, the National Reining Horse Association Derby, and the Interscholastic Equine Association National Championships.
"Participation in these various roles is a reflection of the active participation of the
WT Equine Program personnel, students, and alumni in elite equine events and the horse industry. Horses earned multiple championship recognition for their performances."

and Hay Fever Research.. Oh My!

Dr. Nabarun Ghosh, Professor of Biology, was recently featured on BBC News
for his research conducted on Nanotechnology. The feature covered research conducted on global climate change, aeroallergens, and hay fever.
Dr. Ghosh has been working in this area of Aerobiology for 22 years!
Dr. Ghosh also published a research paper in the European Scientific Journal
in conjunction with Jay Vitale,
Founder and CEO of British Clean Air tech company: Air For Life.
Jay is an active collaborator in Dr. Ghosh's research,
and presented research on BBC News over Nanotechnology
which applied to the advanced air purifiers and designing a mask called an AFL mask.

Dr. Travis Tennant, Assistant Professor of Animal Science,
and students William Boyd, M.S. Animal Science, Bryant Sawin, M.S. Animal Science,
Zane Platter, M.S. Animal Science, and Megan Eckhardt, M.S. Animal Science,
traveled to Charleston, South Carolina
to attend and compete at the American Cured Meats Championship
at the American Association of Meat Processors Conference.
The team was awarded 1st, 3rd, and 4th in the whole muscle jerky category,
and 3rd in the specialty cured products division. Special mention for the 1st place jerky
was led by Will Boyd and 3rd place jerky was led by Bryant Sawin.
