PRINCETON:
FARMING HISTORY STILL REPRESENTED

History: Seasonal Migratory Camp |
In 1940, the migratory camp was built west of Princeton for people who moved to the area to work during the onion and cotton seasons. It was estimated that there were 300-400 transients at the camp during this period (about 2/3 the population of the town at the time!)
During WW2, the camp was turned into a prisoner-of-war camp for Germans captured during the war. When the war came to an end, it once again became a migratory camp
| | | |
Today, that same park that used to be home to migratory workers in the 40s and prisoners of war during WW2 has become the J.M. Caldwell Sr Community Park, one of several premiere sports and leisure fields in the area.
The Community Park has a fully-sanctioned disc golf course, basketball courts, baseball fields, barbeque pits, soccer fields, hiking trails, picnic areas, and a large outdoor pavilion featuring a state-of-the-art dog park.
