Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee

The Triodion Period

The Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee is the first Sunday of a three-week period prior to the commencement of Great Lent. It marks the beginning of a time of preparation for the spiritual journey of Lent, a time for Orthodox Christians to draw closer to God through worship, prayer, fasting, and acts of charity. It is also on this day that the Triodion is introduced, a liturgical book that contains the services from this Sunday, the tenth before Pascha (Easter), to Great and Holy Saturday.

On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us (Acts - 16:13-15)

CHURCH HALL IMPROVEMENTS

Our 2025 Parish Council has set a goal of improving and beautifying our Parish Hall. We have four main goals:

1) Replacing the Ceiling tiles for a fresh look.

2) Replacing window treatments to more modern and practical application.

3) Refreshing the "bar" area.

4) Re-Painting

While we are still in the process of examining our options and securing bids for these various projects, we anticipate new window treatments to cost approx. $5,000 and new ceiling tiles to cost approx. $10,000.

We hope that everyone is enjoying the new tables, offered by our Three Hierarchs Philoptochos that have really opened up the space and created what we hope is a more welcoming and comfortable environment.

Our Parish Council is very ambitious, and working hard to keep up and beautify our facility. Anyone interested in contributing to these worthwhile projects is encouraged to make a donation on Givelify towards "Capitol Improvements." Or send a check to the Church office with Hall Improvements in the memo line.

Thank you and God bless!
