New Interim Standard and Codes of Practice

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is excited to announce the Fish and Fish Habitat Protection Program will engage on an interim Standard for in-water isolation intended to address Wave 1 feedback, as well as four proposed new interim Codes of Practice:

  • Bridge repair and maintenance;
  • Municipal and agricultural drain maintenance;
  • Repair and maintenance of in-water structures; and,
  • Repair, maintenance and construction of docks, moorings and boathouses.

FFHPP is seeking input on the clarity and scope of the new interim SCoPs to validate and improve the management measures used to protect fish and fish habitat.

An analysis and review of feedback received will be required before this interim Code of Practice, and the interim Standard and Codes of Practice released August 10, 2023, are published as final.

Comments and feedback are welcome until November 30, 2023.

Please send any comments or questions to DFO.FFHPP-PPPH.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca.

Municipal Revenue Sharing Declaration of Eligibility

Municipalities are required to annually report their compliance with eligibility requirements to receive their Municipal Revenue Sharing (MRS) grant by completing an online Declaration of Eligibility (declaration). The unique link and password for the online declaration will be emailed to each municipality on November 15, 2023.

If you do not see the email in your inbox, please check your spam/junk folder and then contact grcompliance@gov.sk.ca requesting the email be re-sent.

To avoid your municipality's MRS grant for the 2024-25 year from being withheld, ensure your municipality submits its declaration, which includes a resolution from council, and that your municipality meets all eligibility requirements.

The deadline for submission of the declaration is January 31, 2024. Please ensure the declaration is submitted by the deadline, even if the municipality does not meet all eligibility requirements.

Facilitating Independence Grant Program

Facilitating Independence is a process that focuses on supporting older adults to live as independently as they wish to, in their location of choice. The goal is to provide supportive services and options which allow older adults to live a meaningful and freely chosen life, in their home and community. The intent of the Facilitating Independence Grant funding is to experiment and support trial projects to learn more about innovative, sustainable models that will enable older adults to age well at home. Learnings from the projects may be valuable to other communities in the province.

Grant funding was provided to 13 organizations in 2023. Based on the success of the first Facilitating Independence grant program in 2023, the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism (SSM) has another approximately $200K in 2024 for one-time funding for micro-grants/seed money to organizations that serve older adults, community groups, or other interested organizations to develop/pilot new approaches for providing supportive services to older adults.

Additional information on this opportunity including the application process, eligibility criteria, and timelines, is available on the SSM Website.

Grant applications will be accepted by SSM until November 25, 2023
