OUR HEART ROPE IS STRONG:

Bridging Throughout the Parenting Journey

BY HEATHER FERGUSON

Recently I was saying goodbye to my 24-year-old daughter who was going off on a long overseas journey: a trip she was both excited about and ready for. The intention for the trip is that it will be not only an exploration of new lands, but also an exploration of her inner landscape. After all the preparation, anticipation and joyful excitement, when we embraced one last time the tears came for both of us.

“I’m feeling.…” she said, referring to her sadness. “That’s okay,” she reassured herself, having come to understand that feelings, even the difficult ones, are important.

Ah, yes. We were both feeling the pain of separation. READ THE REST OF HEATHER'S EDITORIAL HERE >

WIRED TO CONNECT

BY HEATHER FERGUSON

Faculty member Heather Ferguson’s talk, Wired to Connect from our 2021 conference, provides us with understanding and insight so that we can approach the daunting issue of screentime from a more nuanced and informed place. Our upcoming 10-week Making Sense of Adolescence Part I: Seven Rites of Passage (MSOA) class takes a comprehensive look at the developmental rites of passage our teens face as they journey through the teen years. MSOA provides parents with a deep understanding of the changes and challenges their teens face so that they can better approach day-to-day issues such as screentime, friendship, homework, jobs, dating, and more, all while preserving their relationship and keeping maturation and vulnerability in mind.
