Update on October River Stewards Volunteer Workday!

Thank you to the 18 hard-working volunteers who completed the planting of 70 native trees and shrubs at the Trout and Back ponds at Sycamore Island! This planting is part of the mitigation for the Trout Pond Improvement Project constructed in 2020.  Some of the native plants in this project include California wild rose, mule fat, elderberry, buttonbush, and valley oak. During the workday, volunteers planted and watered the native species, then spread mulch around the plants before securing them with protective cages.

The second phase will take place later this winter, with 123 more trees to be planted. We’ll share information about how you can help in the months ahead.
