Congratulations to the First Two Female Westchester Eagle Scouts
White Plains residents Rebecca Gilder, at right, and Shira Hadassah Kornblau were promoted to the rank of Eagle Scout in June. Members of Shomer Shabbat Scouting Troop #613 located in White Plains, they are first two female Eagle Scouts in the Greater Hudson Valley Council.
Rebecca built four Free Little Libraries in different neighborhoods in White Plains. Her inspiration for this project was her love of reading and books, the fact that the White Plains Public Library was closed due to Covid 19, and her desire to offer unwanted books free to others.
Shira collaborated with her school, Migdal Oz (Tower of strength), in Israel and constructed a compost bin, encouraging the whole school community to participate. Her motivation for this project was a way to better the environment/ecosystem, and help her school with their agricultural pursuits.
