November Webinar

The most consumed medium by a landslide is video. So why isn’t your school putting time and effort into using it when telling your story? We’re not talking about shaking smartphone clips shot in vertical layout where you can’t even really see what’s going on or hear what’s being said because the audio is not that great. We’re talking about putting time and effort into quality video and audio that seamlessly builds a story.

Does this sound like you need a whole in-house production team? What if we told you this could start right now in your district with minimal resources?

Learn from Jarod Bormann, a semi-pro videographer and photographer, on how video helped the trajectory for one Iowa school. Learn methods, tools, and in-house resources he used to help tell the school’s story and potentially helped increase enrollment over the span of just two years.

Audience: Administrators, Instructional Coaches, Teachers, Teacher Librarians, AEA Consultants

Tip / Strategy To Try Out

Side Panel: A Clutter-Free Reading Space

The Side Panel provides a distraction-free environment for reading, allowing you to concentrate solely on the text. To activate the Side Panel, simply click on the Side Panel icon located at the top right corner of your Chrome window. Once the Side Panel is open, you can navigate to any web page containing text and select the "Reading Mode" option.

Reading Mode: Stripping Away Distractions

Reading Mode further streamlines the reading experience by stripping away unnecessary elements like images, videos, and ads, leaving behind only the essential text. This simplified layout allows you to focus on the content without being visually overwhelmed.

Personalizing Your Reading Experience

To customize your reading experience, Chrome's Reading Mode offers a variety of options:

  • Font Size and Style: Adjust the font size and style to your preference for comfortable reading.
  • Background Color: Choose a background color that suits your reading environment.
  • Line and Letter Spacing: Adjust the spacing between lines and letters to enhance readability.

Teach AI Toolkit

As the AI landscape continues to evolve at a rapid pace, you might find yourself scrambling to navigate AI's implication on education. From the potential that it brings to the pitfalls that might be alarming, how does one even know where to begin?

Recently TeachAI, who brings together education leaders and technology experts to guide the safe, effective, and responsible use of AI in schools by connecting the discussion of teaching with AI to teaching about AI, released an amazing AI toolkit. This toolkit was designed to help education authorities, school leaders, and teachers create thoughtful guidance to help their communities realize the potential benefits of incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) in primary and secondary education while understanding and mitigating the potential risks.

Diffit

Diffit is an AI tool that allows you to easily differentiate resources for students, whether you are using an article, website, Youtube video, or just information you get from Diffit itself. You can select the reading level to adjust the complexity of the text itself. This allows you to produce the same information but with different reading levels to best fit your students’ needs.

Diffit also produces important vocab words, short answer questions, and prompts to help guide student learning around the selected resource. You can also translate the resource or show the sources of the information with the push of a button. Diffit is currently free and will have free features available after a paid option is introduced at the start of 2024.
