A Message From Lily Yu, NorCal Chapter Scribe
Dear NorCal Members,
I am looking forward to meeting everyone at our next in-person Chapter meeting this year, October 17th in San Francisco at Anderson and B44 restaurant The last in-person meeting in January was a heart warming reunion for many colleagues and an exciting opportunity to meet new members. I joined the ASA just a year ago and I felt so welcomed into the community.
This summer we have so many events planned. This month in August will be a Woman's Affinity Group (WAG) interactive Zoom session to better your work-life balance. In September join Elise Rousseau for a in-person Private Peek into the Conservator's Studio. Also in September, Rod Burket will teach us all how to add thousands of dollars to your revenue by putting an End to Discounting Your Fees. In October, Joshua Dimondstein will clarify the muddled markets in Appraising African Tribal Art. Most of all, don't miss the in-person Chapter Dinner Meeting in October. The two part program includes getting motivated by Kristi Royce, in her powerful presentation Unlocking Success: Strategies to Elevate Your Expertise and Your Business to New Heights, followed by a lively dinner at B44 Catalan restaurant with all your Chapter colleagues. This is an incredible networking opportunity to connect in person with other appraisal professionals and is one of the most fun ASA events all year.
As the Scribe for your Chapter, I am responsible for taking the minutes at the Board meetings and publishing of our quarterly newsletter. Please let me know what interests you and how to make this newsletter more relevant and meaningful to you. Send articles, photos, events and valuation related information you would like to share with others. Also we have added a "NorCal Member News" section to make announcements about all the exciting things our members are up to.
The best part of being a part of the ASA is being part of a network that contributes to each other's professional growth and success!
I am glad to be a new member and I look forward to seeing you all at coming events this Summer!

With warm regards,
Lily Yu

Appraising African Tribal Art
by Joshua Dimondstein
Wednesday October 25, 2023
10:00 am - 11:30 am PST
Live Webinar Event
1.5 CEU's
Relative to most other art, the African tribal art market is very small. Exposure to the market forces that normally affect value is often not at play. An understanding of the peculiarities within many segments of the African tribal art market is essential for choosing an appraisers' scope of work.
This live webinar event will demonstrate the disproportionate number (and various types) of fake African tribal art; the sometimes-unclear delineation of market levels within the trade; and the misguided perceptions and expectations that many collectors have about their collections.
Members $25.00
Non-Members $35.00

ROI Pricing: An End to Discounting Your Fees

They say pricing is a psychology problem.
That’s true at first...but then it becomes a “math problem!”
Fortunately, it’s a simple math problem for which we already know the formula:
Your Fee = $ Value of Client Problem ÷ Risk of Investing in You
We must understand what prospects are willing to pay for the problems they want us to solve. And offer a risk-adjusted ROI to determine our price. Thus, if you know the value of the prospect's problem and their required return for investing in you, you can agree on a mutually acceptable price without discounting your fee.
Who Will Benefit:
BVFLS practitioners and any other professionals who are tired of guessing at the “market price” for their services or discounting their fees because someone said they would do the work for a lower fee.
This presentation can add thousands of Dollars to your revenue
...every year.
