Welcome to the first issue of The Globe! This is your source for upcoming school events, key deadlines, student and community stories, and engagement and volunteer opportunities.

It has been a pleasure to welcome students and families to campus over the last several days. Thank you for your support, patience, and enthusiasm as we all adjust to a new school year. The children and families of St. Catherine's are our greatest joy, and we are excited about the year ahead.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome Sr. Rose Catherine and Ruth Abrahams

Please join us in welcoming two new part-time members to the St. Catherine’s faculty/staff.

Sr. Rose Catherine Hoang, O.P.

Ruth Abrahams

Sr. Rose Catherine is supporting our Primary children by assisting with napping and the Primary After-School Program. She is a Dominican Sister of Mary Immaculate Province in Houston. Sister has seven brothers and entered religious life in 1996. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theology and philosophy from Aquinas College in Nashville, Tennessee. With many years of experience in ministry, she has helped students develop their knowledge, moral life, and faith in several levels.

Sr. Rose Catherine is gifted in decoration and flower arrangement. She thanks God for calling her to religious life.

Ruth is working alongside Sr. Theresa Josephine as a catechist in the Atrium. She graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering. Ruth served as an officer in the Air Force, during which she discovered the joy of exploring God’s love with children at a local parish. After moving to Oklahoma and giving birth to her oldest child, she discovered Montessori. She holds certifications in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) in levels 1 and 2 and received her AMI Primary Diploma through the Montessori Institute of San Diego (MISD).

Ruth and her family moved to the Houston area in 2022 and soon joined the St. Catherine’s community. She and her husband, Joel, have three children. Mary is in Lower Elementary and John is in Primary. David is two years old. Ruth’s current pastimes are baking, swimming, and laughing at funny videos.

Mass is Wednesday, August 30 at 2:15 PM

Parent Resource Library

In the Welcome Center, you will find a handsome bookcase containing a variety of titles. This is the PSO Parent Resource Library. Curated and maintained by the PSO, this library holds a wealth of information on Montessori education, parenting, Catholicism, college admissions, and child and adolescent development. You will also find books by Maria Montessori and research and writing by St. Catherine's students.

The library runs on a self-checkout system. We invite you to stop by and take home a book!

SCM on a Whim

SCM On a Whim is an informal, PSO-sponsored Google email group for the St. Catherine’s community. Parents use On a Whim to extend invitations for families to join them for activities; share information about opportunities of interest around town; and crowd-source the SCM community for recommendations. Thank You for Supporting Casa de Esperanza

Thank you to everyone who supported the children of Casa de Esperanza through our annual summer Back-to-School Supplies Drive!

Casa de Esperanza is an organization with strong ties to the St. Catherine's community. Co-founded in 1982 by SCM alumni parent Kathy Foster, this non-profit organization strives to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect for at-risk infants, children, and their families by providing comprehensive residential and family support programs that transform people and communities. Over the years, the PSO’s Works of Mercy Committee has coordinated our community’s support efforts by organizing supply, clothing, and basic needs drives at school.

Your generous donation of school supplies will help many children start the school year on a positive note. There will be another opportunity to support Casa de Esperanza in December with the annual Pajama and Basic Needs Drive.

SPORTS

Fall sports are just around the corner. Get your spirit gear now so you'll be ready to cheer on the Owls.
