Following Your Bliss - or not

(In-Person and Zoom service)

Are you striving for your bliss--or perhaps you're unaware you've already found it. Is "bliss" a roadmap for life?

Worship Leader: Rev Russ Menk

Worship Associate: Lorraine Sandoval-Vigil

Our goal is to provide a meaningful worship experience for all—for those who can attend in-person and for those who can’t.

Please join tomorrow in-person or click the link below to join on-line as we live our mission and work toward our vision of beloved community.

New ZOOM Link for Sunday Morning

We have been using the same Zoom link for Sunday services since April 2020.

Now, it’s time for a change to improve the sound quality for our Zoom congregation.

And is here

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84095601835?pwd=bXNPemtaOUN5cVFNS2tzZldLQ3B2Zz09

Meeting ID: 840 9560 1835

Passcode: 612397

When you click on this link on Sunday morning, you will see a pop-up window asking: "Allow the host to unmute you etc." with two buttons; Allow and Don't Allow.

Please click on “Don’t Allow” and you will then join the meeting as usual.

The new Zoom link can also be found on the Church Calendar

Thanks for helping improve the quality of service for our Zoom congregation……..Russ & the Tech Team

There is currently no children's zoom service.

Item of Interest for the Fellowship

Our Guest Storyteller on Sunday, January 15

A number of folks in the zoom fellowship inquired about our guest storyteller at the Mostly Musical Rev Martin Luther King Jr. service. Our guest was Beverley Callahan, who lives in Watsonville. Her book is titled "Shirley's Surprise Bus Ride" and it's available at Kelley's Books in Watsonville.

New Transitional Minister Search Committee wants to hear from YOU!

The UUA will help guide the process, but before we get too deep in our conversations with them, the Transitional Minister Search Committee wants to collect your ideas, hopes and dreams so we can keep them in mind as we proceed. We have scheduled sometimes for you to share these with us in small, facilitated listening groups. The focus of these meetings will be to hear you BEFORE we get too deep into this work, so the dates are coming up fast:

Monday 1/23 12-1pm Zoom: click here

Wednesday 1/25 8-9pm Zoom: click here

Additional dates will be added to the fellowship calendar as they are scheduled.

RSVP’s to Jessica at thebukos@gmail.com are encouraged, but drop ins are welcome as well.

Thank you in advance for making time to participate in this important process,

Search Committee Members Ann McCrow, Chuck Torrey, Diana Wirt, Donna Senko, Jessica Bukowinski and Sarah Marshall

It’s Chili Cook-off time once again!

Come one, Come all.

The 6th Annual Chili Cook-off commences on Friday, February 10 from 6-8:30pm at Resurrection Catholic Community Meeting Hall (7600 Sequel Drive, Aptos)

This event, sponsored by the Mid-County Homeless Coalition Faith Communities, supports the shower trailer-hot shower program. We are officially entered as "The Chilitarians"!

It’s a great cause, a lot of fun and a wonderful way to support our unhoused community.

Tickets are $20 for Adults (Kids under 12 are FREE). The menu is: chili from approx. 10 different local churches, cornbread, dessert, beverages. There’s live music to add to the fun. And celebrity judges give prizes for various Best Of… categories.

There are 3 ways to get tickets: 1. Buy from Lorraine Sandoval-Vigil or Ginny Aragon. 2. Purchase at the Door 3. Purchase on-line at https://mchc.ticketleap.com/

As we work out what needs to be done to have a winning entry, we will put out an ‘ask’ for various Chilitarian Volunteers. There are needs for chili chefs, set-up/clean-up, and serving. Look for that info soon.

Donations for Farm Worker Families

As a beloved community, the Justice Team of our UUFSCC community is once again keenly aware of the struggles of our Farm Worker Families.

Unfortunately, because of the changes in weather, farming reaped less this past year and farm workers earned only ½ of what they normally do.

We are again appealing to our congregation to donate some essential needed items for farm worker families. According to Dr. Ann Lopez, the needs are:

Baby Diapers sizes 5 & 6             Baby Wipes

Laundry detergent                     Bath soap

Shampoo                                   Bleach

Paper Towels                             Toilet Paper

Any sanitary items

We will not be collecting clothing nor any food items (no dried food, no canned food). Second Harvest Food Bank is helping farm workers in this area.

Please bring to the Gallery Room at the Fellowship during the hours of 10AM-2:30 PM Mondays -Fridays.

Lorraine Sandoval will take the donations to a place where the items will be distributed to farm worker families.

Thank you for your help in this endeavor.

January Shared Plate

UnChained

January's Shared Plate will be for Unchained, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working in Santa Cruz, Monterey and Santa Clara Counties. UnChained teaches youth how to train homeless dogs in basic skills, manners, and socialization, helping the dogs become adopted into permanent homes while the youth learn valuable life skills. Through this experience, youth have the opportunity for self-reflection and personal growth while training homeless dogs in need of adoption. This connection creates a ripple effect within our communities; when youth are part of resolving a community problem, such as training homeless dogs and learning to rise to the challenges those dogs present, they experience a sense of purpose and belonging. The newfound confidence and success they experience enable them to become a more contributing member of their community.
