Carson's Village 2022 in Review

Carson’s Village has served 3,311 families in all 50 states, Guam and Puerto Rico, including 1,860 since January 1, 2022, an increase of 159% year over year. November 2022 saw the highest number of monthly referrals with 249

To support those families, this year Carson’s Village has:

  • Launched our monthly group grief support and our peer-to-peer (P2P) grief support program.
  • Fundraised at the 5th North Texas Giving Day, raising more than $10,751 and hosted the 5th annual Carson’s Village’s Golf Tournament, with 138 golfers and raising $75,598, an 82.2% increase over 2021.
  • Continued our funded partnership with Houston ISD to provide services to 200,000 students and 30,000 employees
  • Improved our internal and external resources, from launching our Interactive Map of counseling and legal resources to increasing our Resource Library by 322%.
  • Grew our following on Facebook and Newsletters as well as Website visits to now serve a combined audience of around 40,000
  • Created targeted bereavement education with the hiring of a Mental Health Coordinator and the development of a Continuing Education Course.

Carson’s Village Peer 2 Peer support program is in its 8th month and we are so proud of our participants. Having a peer connection to share your grief with is invaluable. Our Villagers have reported significant growth and progress in their Peer’s grieving journey as well as their own.

One Villager described “how cathartic it is to be helping someone else,” and a Peer noted how “we have been able to share our experiences. They make my day whenever we have a chance to talk. I am so thankful to have someone to talk to.”

Next year, we are on track to double our enrollment in the program! Thank you to all who have signed up and supported this program. If you are interested in becoming a P2P Villager, apply here. If you would like to help support the P2P program and watch it grow, you can donate here

Houston ISD Renews Funding

Carson’s Village continues its program serving Houston Independent School District and received $10K in funding from the HISD Foundation. Carson’s Village provides education, support, and valuable resources to Houston ISD’s students, families, and staff who have experienced sudden loss.

Carson’s Village is eager to continue to support the students, faculty, and staff for the rest of the 2023 school year, further cultivate relationships with each campus and department, and be the necessary Village for the Houston ISD community.

Carson’s Monthly Grief Group Support continues into 2023! The Group Support Program provides an understanding of grief’s dynamics and explores the myths and what to expect after the passing of a loved one. Our monthly meetings teach strategies to develop healthy coping skills to help you adjust to a life without your loved one. We meet virtually on the second Tuesday of every month at 5 pm PST/7 pm CST/8 pm EST.
