Ray-Pec Community,

In a July message, I shared that the Ray-Pec Board of Education had identified its top priorities from the new Strategic Plan. One of those priorities was to help ensure that we continue to recruit and retain our teaching and staff talent in this school district. To help move that priority forward, at its most recent meeting, the Board approved placing a tax rate transfer called Proposition RP-1 on the April 4 ballot. Proposition RP-1 will ask voters to authorize the district to transfer 50 cents from the Debt Service Fund to the Operating Fund. The proposed tax rate transfer will be phased in over three years, and the overall tax rate is expected to remain at its current rate. If approved, 100 percent of the amount produced by the tax rate transfer will be used to help recruit and retain teachers and staff. Proposition RP-1 will require a simple majority to pass.

Proposition RP-1 comes after much research and discussion about how to recruit and retain our teaching and staff talent in this school district. During the Strategic Planning process last year, the recruitment and retention of teachers and staff were identified by the School Board, staff, and the public as a critical need in this district. More information will be shared in the next few weeks.

I also want to let you know that our most recent episode of Ray-Pec Connect has been loaded to several podcast sites. The purpose of Ray-Pec Connect is to provide you with information that is more in-depth and conversational about current topics in the school district. In our third episode of Connect, I speak about some of the unique ways Ray-Pec staff members stand in the gap to help meet the non-academic needs of our students. I spoke with Student Support Coordinator Allison Scott and two Family School Liaisons, Alicia Gedwillo, and Addison Schultz, about their important work. Listen here

I am pleased with the many ways we continue to support our students, both academically and personally.

Thank you for entrusting your children to the Ray-Pec School District,

Mike
