Health Information Exchange
Oral health and physical health often go hand in hand, so why don't more dentists and medical doctors share patient information? The CDA is working with Contexture, Colorado’s largest health information exchange (HIE) to bring an important resource to the dental community. State funding is available to join the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization's (CORHIO) HIE with no implementation fees. This network allows dentists to access real-time online patient medical summaries. Read more
Volunteer With Special Olympics!
Special Olympics Colorado has two events coming up this fall (Oct. 8 in Fort Collins and Oct. 15 in Denver) at their Regional Football Events and they are looking for dentists, hygienists and dental assistants to help. Through the Healthy Athletes® program, Special Olympics Colorado athletes receive free dental screenings and mouth guard fittings. Monkeypox Virus
This month in Colorado, there are 129 cases of monkeypox. The virus can spread from person to person when someone who has monkeypox has close contact with someone else. Close contact can mean physical contact with the sores, bumps or lesions. The first lesions of the rash tend to develop on the tongue and in the mouth, making dentists ideal providers to recognize the virus. Electronic Prescribing Requirement: July 1, 2023
It’s time to get ahead of the game to comply with a new electronic prescribing law for dentists. Next summer, Colorado law will require dentists to ePrescribe Controlled Substances (EPCS). The CDA is getting this in front of members a year in advance of Colorado’s July 1, 2023 EPCS deadline. Read more

CODPAC Legislative Candidate Interviews
For the past two weeks, CDA volunteer dentists have interviewed legislative candidates who are running for seats in the Colorado House of Representatives and Senate. Over the course of four nights, CDA dentists interviewed over 45 candidates, gaining insight into their political positions and fostering relationships at the state Capitol.
