Weekly E-Announcements - May 3, 2024

Love courageously. Inspire spiritual growth. Work for justice.

On the Seventh Day God Rested: What About You?

Our Judeo-Christian heritage offers up some good advice: to take a day off from time to time. Modern life seems to get busier and busier, and social media invites us to be constantly ‘on.’ As UUFD looks forward with a new minister and ministry starting August, let’s make a case for Sabbath rest and renewal, especially in light of all the exceptional shared ministry which ministerial search involved.

Previous General Announcements You May Have Missed

Celebration of Gratitude for the Carpenter family

Ken and Lois Carpenter have been involved with UU activity in other states, at the regional and national levels and have been steadfast members at UUFD from our lay-led years into the present. They have shared their wonderful property on the Pine River for regional UU retreats for decades. On May 5th there will be a potluck brunch right after the regular service, followed by an entertaining celebration back in the sanctuary. Please help us to honor this terrific family with our love and gratitude!  For more information or to offer a dish to share please email Liza Tregillus, lizatrig@gmail.com (Caring Team member).

Do you Have Photos of Carpenters?

We are collecting photos of Ken and Lois for the upcoming celebration of gratitude on May 5. If you have any to contribute (either digital or a copy of a photo), please send them by tomorrow (Sat May 4) to Terri Reherman at terrigoes@gmail.com.

UUFD Earth Day Booth Recap

The Environmental Justice Team co-sponsored the community's Earth Day celebration by marching in the parade and staffing a well-attended booth at Buckley park. We offered people the chance to make a pledge to reduce their plastic use and win a sample of a useful plastic substitute product. Pledges were woven into our Spirit Web. Heartfelt Lessons Through Life’s Transitions – Our UUFD Summer Series 2024

What has fed your soul? We have all evolved through personal life transitions. Passages through beginnings and endings can nurture spiritual growth in many ways.

Transitions can be transformative and sharing them can serve as nourishment for us all. What lessons have you learned through self-reflection that have helped you along your way? If you are willing to share your learning and growth through transitions, the Worship Team would like to hear your proposal for one our summer series Sunday talks.

Please submit a short paragraph describing your idea for a presentation.

We would like to include a variety of topics, so please also let us know which of the following areas your talk would most relate to:

  • Learning to live Joyfully
  • Finding Courage through adversity
  • Finding Meaning in today’s world
  • The role of Gratitude in your life
  • Living life Authentically
  • Aging and spiritual growth
  • The role of Grief and Loss in cathartic growth
  • Moving through Discernment toward a decision
  • Beginnings and Endings of Relationships
  • Self-Compassion as we move through struggle
  • Other Topic, of a similar nature

Please send your submissions BY MAY 8TH to Sheryl Guy at:  ptepte@hotmail.com

The series dates will be finalized later, basically:  July & August (minus PineSong July 12-14). Let us also know if you will be gone on certain dates.

Summer Sundays for Kids

Beginning the first week in June, watch this space for Sunday activities that will offer a variety of experiences during Faith Formation on Sundays.  Confirmed to far are opportunities to cook or bake and to create with pottery.

Kids, do you have ideas for something you’d to learn or do.  Let Sharon Mignerey know so we can find ways to implement your ideas.

Are you looking for a covenant group?

Covenant groups are the small gatherings where people talk, learn, work, and play together over time.  These offer opportunities to know one another more deeply with connections to the larger UUFD community.  The content used by groups is determined by the group.

If there’s enough interest, new group(s) can be formed; there are also sometimes openings within existing groups.  If you’re looking for a group that will form over the summer and perhaps not begin meeting until September, reach out to Sharon Mignerey.
