Happy Thursday Dear Church!

I trust this email finds you happy and content. Thank you to everyone who helped make last Sunday’s worship so meaningful. Sunday was one of those days where I felt free to worship. Sometimes, there is so much going on and things to hold in my brain, that worship comes and goes and I wonder .. “What just happened?” That was not the case on Sunday. My gratitude goes out to Brandon and all the music/worship ministry. The choir led us enthusiastically. There is nothing quite like singing a song like, “Take My Life and Let it Be,” from 1874 and feel the truth of its words even in this, the 21st century. The testimonies of both Lynn Amabile and Butch Young were so inspiring. I am amazed at both of these individuals and all they do for our church. I particularly liked the puzzle piece metaphor from Lynn. Indeed, each and every one of us plays an important, meaningful role in the ministry of our church. My hope is that you were able to inventory your own life, searching for the ways that you can give to God and give to this ministry. We received 14 commitment cards on Sunday. The cards will be available in the narthex and at your seat for PIE Day and the Congregational Meeting. God is up to something in our beloved community.

As you read this, I am probably taking good of Freddie. I am going to TGIA …. Remember what that means? Thank God in Advance. Today, I am thanking God in advance for a swift recovery period. I praise God for the knowledge and skill that goes into a surgery like this one. Thank you all for your concern and prayers lifted.

Looking ahead, we find ourselves on the cusp of Advent … again. Our theme for Advent 2023 is: “Even, So Come.” As we approach this advent/holiday season, I encourage you to make worship a priority. As Lent prepares our hearts for Easter, so Advent prepares our hearts for the coming of the Christ. With the unrest in the world, I suspect that this advent will feel very real, very dark and brooding. As we enter those spaces that we often like to avoid, be assured that they are part of the process that prepares us. We, like the Children of Israel, find ourselves longing for the coming of love. It is going to be a great season. I challenge you … pick a Sunday during Advent that you can invite a friend. I am firmly convinced that people visit a new church because they were asked by a friend … not the pastor, not an ad in the paper, and not a sign with clever sayings and not even a perfect website. Just think, you could really make someone’s Christmas by offering them the life we experience at the Community Church of Poway.

I am so excited about our Thanksgiving Worship this Sunday. It will be a bit different than what we have experienced before. Instead of a sermon from me, you will be treated to four monologues of well-known Biblical characters. We will be singing an old chorus of Thanksgiving. Click here if you would like to listen and learn before Sunday.

As always … know that you are loved and embraced by the source of all Love. I love being your pastor.

Holding you close and lifting you high!

A Message from Pastor Debbie

Greetings,

During this time of Thanksgiving, I think so much about “Gratefulness”. One is what I am grateful for – family, friends, faith – the list goes on. But most importantly in being in a state of gratitude. The importance of looking at each day with the heart of appreciation and hope.

I encourage you to look for the greatness of life and savor it, absorb it. Be grateful to God, yourself, and others. AND let them know it!

Blessings,

Pastor Debbie

Thank You Lord

This Sunday we are celebrating thanksgiving. I truly believe that gratitude is one of the most powerful spiritual practices we can engage in. Our family tries to engage in gratitude daily modeling it for our teenagers. Jesus modeled it for us as he gave thanks many things including food, his friends and his calling.

For me at least, there seems to be a way in which singing can amplify the emotion or power of something in my life. Here are a couple of thanksgiving songs that you can listen to amplify your thanksgiving and focus your heart on gratitude this week as we prepare to worship together.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

This Sunday November 19th

What a joy it is to be part of a church that truly embraces the “CONGREGATIONAL WAY.” After our Thanksgiving Worship and PIE, we will convene for our November Congregational Meeting. Oh yeah … don’t’ forget to bring a PIE.

This Sunday!

Thanksgiving Worship and PIE DAY.

This Sunday, November 19th

You and your families will not want to miss our special Thanksgiving Worship this Sunday, November 19th. During the worship time, we will travel back to the early days of the frontier. You will be treated to 4 monologues of well-known Bible characters as if they were on the American frontier. You will be moved by the life realities they bring to us, encouraging us to be thankful.

After worship, we will gather for PIE DAY. We had 20 pies last year and looking for more this year. Nothing says “Thanksgiving” like delicious homemade pies. Always keep in mind your pastor loves cherry. Hope to see many of you there.

Time to Deck the Halls

Saturday morning, December 2nd, we will be gathering to deck our halls for the Advent Christmas Season. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. We have found from the past, that the more folks we have, the quicker we create a beautiful result. Everyone is welcome, especially our kids.

Also, as we did last year, we are looking for those individuals who have an extra artificial tree at home. We would love to create a CCPUCC forest on the chancel. Let Pastor Greg know if you have a tree you would like to let us use. There will be food! Hope to see many of you there.

A LITTLE HEADS UP FOR CHRISTMAS EVE 2023

Well, the calendar is doing it to us again. This year, Christmas Eve happens on a Sunday. Christmas Eve morning, we will offer a very “unplugged,” intimate, worship time with Communion. This morning gathering will last only about 30 minutes. Then, at 6:00 p.m. we will gather in the sanctuary for a Christmas Eve Worship Celebration. Christmas Eve and Easter are two days when we put many of our eggs in one beautiful basket. We always have visitors who want to worship in a church on Christmas Eve, as well as your extended families. Make plans now to be here, family in tow, and invite someone you know who needs what we have in this beloved community. So … go right now to your paper calendars and iphones and log this information. It is going to be a wonderful holiday season

The Outreach Ministry!

Greetings from the Outreach Ministry

Once again thank you so much for sharing your gifts this Thanksgiving Season. Your gifts will bring joy and fullness to our neighbors across the street. You are truly God’s hands and feet.

Well we have one more Mission before the end of the year!! That Mission is to share the joys of the Christmas Season with others. Our church is adopting one family from Solara across the street. We are adopting one Military Family and we are also adopting two seniors from Los Arcos! And of course we will be doing our Gifts to the Manger to help out the little ones from families who are a part of Interfaith Community Service’s in Escondido.

It’s so exciting to be a part of this church who shares their gifts with so many!!! Our church family and friends always come through to make life easier and bring joy to others!! You are most definitely amazing!!!

Look for our gift trees near the Basket of Hope! Take a tag or two with you to shop for that special gift. You can then wrap your gift and tape the tag on the gift you chose, so we will know what family it belongs too!!! Then bring your gift back to church and place under the tree until the special delivery.

As always, thank you in advance for sharing in these special missions!!!

God loves a cheerful giver and that cheerful giver is YOU!!

Many Blessings from the
