🏫Navigating the September Spike: Asthma Preparedness for Back-to-School Season🎒

As the back-to-school excitement fills the air, so does an annual health concern: the September Spike in asthma-related emergency visits. With the return to classrooms, sports, and crowded spaces, triggers like respiratory infections and allergens can lead to a surge in asthma flare-ups.

Parents, teachers, and caregivers, take note: prevention is key.

Ensure your child's Asthma Action Plan is up to date, medications are available in their backpack, and communication with school staff is established. Encourage regular handwashing and mask-wearing to reduce infections. Create an asthma-friendly environment at home by minimizing allergens and triggers. Asthma education is important – teach your child to recognize symptoms of an asthma flare-up and to seek help promptly.

By proactively addressing these factors, we can transform the September Spike into a season of preparedness, safeguarding our children's wellbeing and ensuring a healthy return to school.

😮‍💨Breathing Easier in New Brunswick Parks🏞️

New Brunswick's breathtaking provincial parks are becoming even more inviting, thanks to a ground-breaking partnership between NB Lung and Parks NB. This project aims to bring real-time air quality data to park visitors by installing state-of-the-art PM2.5 monitors in every provincial park in New Brunswick.

2023 is the worst wildfire season in Canada’s history. Every province has been impacted by fires directly or indirectly through wildfire smoke, including New Brunswick. These monitors will provide data on fine particulate matter levels, helping visitors make informed decisions about outdoor activities and promoting respiratory health, especially during air quality events.

NB Lung's expertise in air quality and Parks NB's commitment to environmental stewardship align seamlessly in this initiative. By creating a network of monitors spanning New Brunswick's diverse landscapes, tourists and locals alike can enjoy the great outdoors while staying aware of air quality conditions.

You can learn more about this project on our website, and check out our newly developed PM2.5 and Air Quality Health Index signage at a provincial park near you!

"All things share the same breath- the beast, the tree, the man. The air shares its spirit with all the life it supports."
