Bitcoin experienced a severe flash crash this past month, causing it to drop over 70% below its all-time high.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Tuesday she still views two quarters of negative growth as a good rule of thumb to indicate a recession, but believes it is possible to bring down inflation while maintaining full employment.

Supply issues account for around half of the run-up in current inflation levels, San Francisco Fed economist Shapiro wrote in the latest edition of the bank's "Economic Letter," with demand reasons responsible for about one third and the rest a result of ambiguous factors.

Central banks' focus on fighting persistently high inflation could lead to a recession over the next two years and raise the risk of 'financial accidents', U.S. investment firm PIMCO said on Wednesday.

U.S. Supreme Court Overturns Abortion Rights Landmark

The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion.

Chris Lange, FISM News

The Supreme Court on Friday overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion ruling in a highly anticipated decision. The ruling effectively ends recognition of a constitutional right to abortion and leaves abortion laws up to each individual state.

The 6-3 conservative majority ruling came in the court’s opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which centered on a Mississippi law banning abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

“The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the opinion, as reported by Reuters.

“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging…(READ MORE)

US Navy Fusses with Gender Inclusive Language Losing Credibility on the World Stage

They also suggest that members of the US Navy show that they are “allies” by including their own pronouns in their emails...

Marion Bae, FISM News

As “Pride Month” comes to an end, a new controversy has come to light after footage of pronoun training reportedly intended for members of the US Navy began to circulate.

The training video has been blasted by many for both its content and elementary style, saying it leaves our allies, and undoubtedly our enemies, asking whether or not the United States is as ready as it one was to defend itself and others on the world stage.

The training video, which was originally posted as early as last year, consists of three minutes of banter between two individuals discussing suggestions relating to gender identity that closely mimic views held by the far-left. The two individuals featured in the video, Conchy Vasquez and Jony Rozon, are both engineers…(READ MORE)

Six US Cities Expected to Surpass Gruesome 2021 Crime Wave

Previous data shows that being a police officer has become much more deadly, with 2021 proving to be the deadliest on record thus far.

Ian Patrick, FISM News

Six major cities are on pace to pass last year’s historic violent crime totals in just the first half of 2022, in what many are seeing as continued fallout from the “defund the police” movement that took root in 2020.

Violent crime typically includes homicide, rape, assault, and robbery. The cities with increasing rates of these types of crimes according to crime data reported by Fox News are Baltimore, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Atlanta, and New York City.

New York City saw the biggest increase with a 25.8% jump in violent crime halfway through 2022 when compared to the same time in 2021. Following the same comparisons, violent crime jumped 12% in Washington D.C.; 8.6% in Los Angeles; 7% in Philadelphia; 6.1% in Baltimore; and…(READ MORE)

FDA Approves First Daily Pill to Treat Alopecia

While the results are promising, the medication is not without side effects.

Lauren Dempsey, FISM News

MS in Biomedicine and Law, RN

Earlier this month the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced its approval of an oral medication to treat adult patients diagnosed with alopecia areata, which affects hundreds of thousands of people in the United States.

Dr.Kendall Marcus, M.D., director of the Division of Dermatology and Dentistry in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research praised the approval saying, Access to safe and effective treatment options is crucial for the significant number of Americans affected by severe alopecia,” adding that the “approval will help fulfill a significant unmet need for patients with severe alopecia areata.”

The drug, Olumiant, is the first pill approved to treat the entire body rather than a targeted area…(READ MORE)

ISIS Claims Responsibility for Lethal Attacks on Christian Villages in Mozambique

According to BBC’s Mozambique analyst, Joseph Hanlon, the government of Mozambique is likely trying to prevent a proxy war between the U.S. and IS.

Abby Davis, FISM News

ISIS has claimed responsibility for attacks that killed eight people in Christian villages, according to International Christian Concerns.

Between May 23 and May 31, six villages in Mozambique’s northern province Cabo Delgado were attacked. Several houses were burned and eight people were killed, four of whom were known to be Christians.

Fed Bank President Predicts Inflation Woes Will Linger but Balks at Recession Talk

The matter is clearly on the president’s mind. On Monday, he chastised a reporter for asking if a recession is inevitable.

Willie R. Tubbs, FISM News

The president of one of the nation’s regional Federal Reserve banks believes the U.S. is at least two years away from the inflation rate receding to 2%.

Loretta Mester, president of Cleveland’s Federal Reserve Bank, made the prediction during an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Sunday.

“[What] we’re looking at is trying to get our interest rates up to a more normal level so that we can stem some of the oversized demand momentum in the economy and bring it back down so that we can relieve some of those inflationary pressures,” Mester said. “[We’re] going to be looking for the month-to-month changes in inflation rates to get some really good evidence on whether we’ve seen inflation first stabilize and then begin to move back down. It is going to take a while to get inflation back down to 2%. But what we’re looking for is…(READ MORE)

Some Dems Are Now Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud Concerning Biden’s Age and a Second Term

“Look, it’s a problem,” one Democratic strategist acknowledged to the Hill, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Chris Lange, FISM News

Concern about President Biden’s fitness for office, once slammed by Democrats and the media as right-wing propaganda, now has some Democrats openly urging the 46th president not to seek a second term in 2024.

Video clips and sound bites chronicling the first year-and-a-half of Joe Biden’s presidency bely the image of vim and vigor the White House has sought to portray of the commander in chief who turns 80 this fall.

Americans have watched the president twice trip up the stairs as he boards Air Force One. They’ve cringed at a litany of potentially incendiary gaffes with significant global security implications and have come to expect his staff’s frantic attempts to walk back the remark. At times, the president seems to mumble incoherently and look confused; at others, he comes off as being irritable - even angry - as he barks at audiences and…(READ MORE)

Dems Seek to Block Pro-Life Groups from Appearing in Search Results for Abortion Clinics

Warner, a longtime abortion advocate, cosponsors the Women’s Health Protection Act which would codify Roe v. Wade...

Chris Lange, FISM News

Democratic leaders in the House and Senate are calling on Alphabet, Inc. and its subsidiary, Google, to block information on pregnancy health centers and other pro-life organizations from appearing in search results for abortion seekers.

Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) and Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) led 19 colleagues in a June 17 letter to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai urging him to take action to bury what Democrats call “fake clinics” in searches for abortion providers, particularly in states with so-called “trigger laws” that would place bans or limits on abortions if Roe v. Wade is overturned. The lawmakers complain that 37% of Google Maps results and 28% of Google ads promoting pro-life groups and pregnancy help centers appear at the top of search results…(READ MORE)

Transgender Indoctrination Suit Filed by Pennsylvania Parents over Lessons Aimed at First Graders

Additionally, the suit claims that the district was in violation of their own policies when they did not list gender dysphoria and transgender transitioning as part of their online curriculum.

Savannah Hulsey Pointer, FISM News

Pennsylvania parents have filed a lawsuit in federal court saying Jefferson Elementary School in Pittsburgh violated district policy, state law and the Constitution by teaching students about gender dysphoria and transgender transitioning.

Mothers Carmilla Tatel, Stacy Dunn and Gretchen Melton filed suit against the Mount Lebanon School District seeking a court order to stop gender-related teaching at the Pittsburgh school, or at least offer parents the ability to opt their children out, according to Fox News

In addition to the school district, the suit names first-grade teacher Megan Williams, as well as the school’s principal, superintendent, and school board. The action also asked the court to impose compensation and punitive financial damages against the school for their…(READ HERE)

Uvalde Families Call for Arredondo’s Resignation as Evidence against Him Mounts

The truth of whether the door was unlocked would be readily known if Arredondo had actually tried to unlock the two classroom doors.

Lauren Moye, FISM News

Parents and family members called for the resignation of Uvalde Police Chief Pete Arredondo after the latest evidence emerging from the Robb Elementary School shows even more contradictions between earlier public comments and the reality of the mass shooting.

Nineteen children and two teachers lost their lives in late May while the police delayed their response for over an hour.

“Having Pete still employed, knowing he is incapable of decision-making that saves lives is terrifying,” Brett Cross, the uncle of one the victims, said during the extended public comment session of Monday’s Uvalde School Board meeting. Other attendees held “Fire Pete…(READ MORE)

Former Youth Pastor Killed in Similar Fashion to George Floyd While in Police Custody

Some wonder if this tragedy will be pushed to the wayside by the liberal media, which has no ulterior motives for covering a story about a white youth pastor dying in police custody...

Seth Udinski, FISM News

North Carolina officials are investigating the death of a former youth pastor who was killed while in police custody earlier this month, drawing sobering comparisons to the May 2020 death of George Floyd.

On June 15, 35-year-old Christopher Hensley was arrested outside an apartment complex in North Carolina on charges of possession of drugs and a domestic disturbance. It is unclear at this point if those charges were validated.

Sources indicate that a struggle broke out between Hensley and law enforcement, during which officers pinned Hensley to the ground while attempting to place him under arrest. Sources also claim that Hensley, like Floyd, could not breathe and repeatedly told law enforcement that he was struggling…(READ MORE)

Biden Administration Proposes New Policy on Nicotine in Cigarettes

The Trump administration also unveiled plans in 2017 to reduce nicotine levels in cigarettes, but these plans were halted just two years later.

Lauren Dempsey, FISM News

MS in Biomedicine and Law, RN

The Biden administration is planning to develop a proposal that would require tobacco companies to reduce nicotine levels in cigarettes sold in the U.S. according to a memo released Tuesday. The rule would reduce nicotine levels to minimal or non-addictive levels in an effort to reduce smoking-related deaths.

According to the CDC, tobacco use is currently the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Cigarette smoking causes over 480,000 deaths per year, which amounts to 1 out of every 5 deaths in the United States. Secondhand smoke exposure kills thousands of adults and children each year as well.

The proposed rule was published in the Biden administration’s spring “unified agenda.” The stated goal of the proposal is…(READ MORE)

Senate Passes Gun Legislation in Late-Thursday Vote

As previously reported on FISM, the act does not restrict the type of firearms citizens can purchase or possess, nor does it limit magazine sizes.

Willie R. Tubbs, FISM News

For a governing body best known for stalemates, the U.S. Senate can move quite quickly when sufficiently motivated. Thursday night, just 48 hours after a group of Democrat and Republican lawmakers introduced new gun control legislation, the upper chamber approved the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

The bill passed by a vote of 65-to-33 as 15 Republicans joined all 50 Democrats in passing a bill that proponents say poses no threat to law-abiding gun owners and detractors warn is custom-made for abuse.

“The American people want their constitutional rights protected and their kids to be safe in school,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said from the floor prior to the vote. “They want both those things at once. And that is just what the bill before the Senate will help…(READ MORE

Biden Still ‘Considering’ National Gas Tax Holiday, Student Loan Forgiveness

The subject of student loan forgiveness has been another hot-button subject as the midterms loom.

Lauren Moye, FISM News

President Joe Biden is “considering” proposals for both a national gas tax holiday and student loan debt forgiveness, issues that have been sources of division within his own party.

Biden made comments about both topics yesterday during a Delaware press gaggle.

When asked about a gas tax holiday, Biden answered, “I hope to have a decision based on the data. I’m looking for by the end of the week.”

The federal gas tax costs consumers 18.3 cents per gallon. At the time of this writing according to AAA statistics, national gas prices are at $4.968 per gallon. California has the highest average at $6.382 while Georgia holds the lowest state average...(READ MORE)

SCOTUS Rules Maine Tuition Program Discriminates against Religious Groups

“We have repeatedly held that a State violates the Free Exercise Clause when it excludes religious observers from otherwise available public benefits,” Roberts wrote

Chris Lange, FISM News

The U.S. Supreme Court handed a major victory to religious liberty proponents Tuesday in a ruling that struck down a Maine tuition assistance program that excludes religious schools from eligibility.

The 6-3 decision establishes that Maine’s law violates the U.S. Constitution’s Free Exercise Clause by not remaining neutral in the decision that parents make, according to the Associated Press. The ruling could impact 18 other states that impose similar restrictions on religious schools, including nearby Vermont.

Under Maine’s law, parents living in rural areas without access to a nearby public school are provided with vouchers that allow them to educate their children at a public or private school of their choosing, including schools outside of their state, yet religious schools are explicitly singled out…(READ MORE)

Over 70% of Americans Believe Country is Heading in the Wrong Direction

41.2% said they would be willing to vote for a candidate they disagreed with on abortion if they agreed with the candidate on other issues.

Samuel Case, FISM News

A recent Suffolk University/USA Today poll inquiring about the political issues of the day found that an overwhelming majority of Americans believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction.

The poll asked respondents, who were evenly split across the political spectrum, whether they “feel the country is headed in the right direction or is on the wrong track?” The vast majority, 71.4% of those polled, said that the country is on the “wrong track,” while only 15.6% said the country is heading in the right direction.

As a result, a majority of respondents (57.1%) said they disapprove of the job Joe Biden is doing as president, with 46.5% saying they strongly disapprove. On the flip side, 38.8% approve…(READ MORE)

Ukraine War Update: Ukraine and Russia Observe Day of Remembrance; Military Strategist Says ‘Putin is Winning at This Moment’

A retired U.S. general described the fighting between Russia and Ukraine as a “heavyweight boxing match,” and that he senses a “knockout blow” is coming…

Chris Lange, FISM News

As the war in Ukraine stretches into its fourth month, both Russia and Ukraine are observing the “Day of Remembrance and Sorrow” today, marking the anniversary of Hitler’s attack on the Soviet Union in World War II. In Russia, President Vladimir Putin visited the Russian tomb of the unknown soldier and is expected to lay flowers at a memorial flame for the dead later in the day.

World War II plays heavily into Putin’s narrative that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a “special military operation” necessary to squelch rising Naziism – a rationale wholly rejected by Ukraine and the West, but one that the people of Russia appear to now support.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak referenced the somber anniversary in a rueful tweet, writing, “Bombed at 4:30 am. Banned the word ‘war’. Blamed other countries for aggression. Psychiatrists of the future will examine: how after building the WWII cult for years, Russia began to recreate…(READ MORE)

Four States and Washington DC Woke Up to Primary Results

Trump endorsements, however, failed to end in success for several Georgia GOP candidates…

Savannah Hulsey Pointer, FISM News

The states of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Virginia, and the District of Columbia all went to the polls on Tuesday in the most recent round of primaries as a lead-up to the November midterms. Many went to bed still awaiting the results, however, as counting stretched into the early morning hours for several major elections.

The power of former President Donald Trump’s endorsement once again proved formidable in what was possibly the most anticipated election on Tuesday, as Trump-backed Katie Britt defeated incumbent Rep. Mo Brooks in Alabama’s GOP primary. The loss was particularly bitter for Brooks after Trump pulled his endorsement in favor of Britt.

Trump called Brooks “woke” and backed Britt after the Alabama representative in March advised Trump and Republicans to move on from claims that the 2020 election…(READ MORE)
