Thanksgiving Break is officially

  • All University Offices will be CLOSED on Thursday (November 23) and Friday (November 24).
  • Dining hours may be LIMITED. For specific hours, please refer to Deacon Dining's website at deacondining.com.
  • Residence Halls will be OPEN throughout the break. However, there will be limited staff on-site.
  • For emergencies, or to contact on-call staff, call University Police at 336-758-5911

Break Status

By Friday, November 17, we ask that you complete this brief form to let us know if you’re departing campus so our staff can plan to complete inspections. This also allows us to have an awareness of who is on campus for the break period.

Leaving for Break

As you are packing, please double-check that you have included valuables such as your wallet, keys, passport, airplane tickets, medication, and your Deacon OneCard in your luggage.

There are several tasks that we ask that you complete prior to leaving for the break in order to help us secure the building, keep energy consumption down, and also keep the buildings in a sanitary condition over the break:

  • Store all food in closed containers and remove perishables.
  • Personal property should be moved off the floor.
  • Remove all trash and recyclables from your room and common areas to outside containers.
  • Take bicycles home or store them on designated bike racks (not in hallways, on balconies, under stairwells, or attached to banisters). Motorized bikes and/or e-scooters are NOT allowed in the residence halls or under breezeways; these should be parked in designated moped spaces.
  • Key(s) and identification, including passports, should not be left in the room.
  • Unplug all items from wall outlets. MicroFridge© units should remain plugged in, but please dispose of any perishable food.
  • Take valuables (jewelry, laptops, AirPods, etc.) with you or store them someplace safe, secure, and out of sight.
  • Adjust blinds
  • Ground floor or balcony facing rooms: Lower and close blinds
  • Upper floor and non-balcony facing rooms: Raise and open blinds
  • Shut and lock your windows and turn off your room lights.
  • Lock your door and take your key. Staff will lock all doors!
  • Fan coil units should be set to 70° and low fan speed. See below.

Entering Rooms

Please be aware that your room will be entered between November 19-21 and may be reentered over the break. Staff will enter student rooms during the break to perform inspections and routine maintenance. During this time we will lock all windows and doors.

Administrative action, billing, and/or student conduct referral can result if unauthorized items or unsafe/unclean conditions are found. All staff members are expected to report the presence of health and safety/hazards or violations. For more information on department and University policies please refer to the Guide to Community Living and Code of Conduct.

This email correspondence should serve as an official notice regarding inspections.

Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact your community staff or reach out to our office at housing@wfu.edu or 336-758-5185.

Finally, rooms will be locked when inspected, so please be sure to take your keys and student ID with you as you leave your rooms during the break.

Have a great break and a wonderful rest of the fall semester!

Best -
