Weekly Update
A Message from Principal Simpson
| | |
Dear Parents,
These first couple school days have been so fun! I’ve been able to pop into classrooms, and all I see are engaged, smiling students and energized, enthusiastic teachers. I love the positive energy that a new school year brings. It's so rewarding to see students forming new friendships and reconnecting with old friends. These first days are essential for laying out expectations and building relationships. The table is set for a successful, challenging school year!
Carpool is going fairly well, but below are a couple of reminders to help things go even smoother:
- Morning Drop-off: In Zone A (the one in front of the school), please pull all the way around the corner to the red line. Close all the gaps in the line.
- If you arrive between 7:45 - 8 a.m., your students will never be late. There are fewer cars during this time and the line moves quickly.
- Afternoon Pick-up: Please take down your carpool tag once all of your students are in the car.
- Please do not get out of your car during carpool (drop-off or pick-up). We will help your student if they need assistance.
- Finally, please get off/stay off your phone when you are moving through carpool. This helps us all stay safe!
As you may know, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is considering an initiative to help address funding challenges in our school district. Additional funding would be critical for us here at BFA. Our staff is fantastic and very dedicated to our students. They deserve compensation that is more competitive with other school districts - this will help us retain the amazing teachers and support staff that work with your kids every day. Additional funding would also enable our school to continue to make necessary upgrades and repairs to provide your student with a comfortable and safe learning environment. As a DCSD charter school, we get 100 percent of any Mill Levy Override approved. The current structure for the proposed MLO is that any new money approved by taxpayers would go directly towards compensation for our staff. This could mean salary increases of at least 10 percent if approved. A MLO passing in November would lead to a significant positive financial impact for our staff.
Please watch this video created by Superintendent Kane and share it on your own social media page(s) so others can understand how schools such as ours get funded. It's very insightful and will only take around five minutes of your time. Talking to our taxpayers in Douglas County will take all of us working together! The DCSD Board of Education will be voting next Tuesday on whether or not to pose the MLO and Bond ballot question in November.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns!
Mrs. Simpson

Get the Lowdown on Lunch at BFA |
Students can bring a lunch, or get lunch at school. See the Nutrition Services webpage for more information. Douglas County Nutrition Services (DCNS) provides lunch and strives to offer healthy options. This school year, the prices for lunch at BFA are as follows:
- Meal: $3.75
- Double: $2.50
- Milk: $1.25
You can view the lunch choices for the week on the Nutrislice website, and set up a payment account through MySchoolBucks.
Nutrition Services has found that some parents do not want their students to purchase extra food (snacks or doubles) or have a negative account balance. If you DO NOT want your child to have extra food and/or create a negative balance (charging) on their account, complete the online form on the MySchoolBucks.com Parent Welcome page or click here. Please note, that you will need your student's ID number.
Please make sure your child knows when they should order hot lunch and what their choice is for that day (including whether they'll be purchasing doubles). Teachers are asked to give a count of how many students will be ordering lunch and what choice they would like each morning. This year students will use their student ID number to purchase lunches. Teachers will help them remember their number, but faster they learn it, the quicker the line will go each day.
