Construction Update
Exit 16 DDI
DATE: Friday, August 25, 2023
SPECIAL NOTICE:
In observance of the Labor Day holiday, crews will be offsite starting Friday, September 1, at noon. Construction activities will resume on Tuesday, September 5, at 6:00 a.m.

A portion of Mountain View Drive at its intersection with U.S. Route 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) remains under lane reductions to facilitate independent utility work. Last week, independent utility crews worked to connect the existing utility to the new underground infrastructure. Independent utility crews will be working to restore the roadway surface. A single lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times. These lane reductions will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This work is anticipated to continue throughout next week and will reopen once the roadway is reestablished.
TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION:
Sunday, August 27, through Thursday, August 31, during nighttime hours, 7:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m., U.S. 2/7 will be under lane closures between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive to facilitate the installation of stormwater infrastructure and curb, adjustments to water valves on the newly installed waterline, and paving of sections of roadway disturbed throughout the nighttime hours. At least one travel lane will remain open in each direction during the nighttime hours. Side street and interstate ramp access will be maintained throughout this work. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use caution while driving through the work zone and pay close attention to signage as traffic patterns will change.

Monday, August 28, through Friday, September 1, during the daytime hours, 6:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., work will continue along U.S. 2/7 throughout the project area under lane closures. Only a single travel lane will be closed in each direction during the daytime hours. The outermost southbound lane along U.S. 2/7 between the Interstate 89 (I-89) ramps will be closed to facilitate the installation of the retaining wall along the west side of U.S. 2/7.

All users should expect delays and plan ahead.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
Next week, during nighttime hours, crews will install stormwater infrastructure and curb, adjust water valves on along the newly installed waterline, and pave sections of disturbed roadway along U.S. 2/7 between South Park Drive and Mountain View Drive. The stormwater infrastructure work will take place along U.S. 2/7 near each of the I-89 on and offramps. The curb will be installed along U.S. 2/7 near Whitcomb Street. The water valve adjustments will take place at various locations along U.S. 2/7 between Mountain View Drive and South Park Road (predominately in the southbound lanes). This work will require lane closures along U.S. 2/7. Side street and interstate ramp access will be maintained throughout this work.

Next week, during daytime hours, crews will continue to construct the western retaining wall that will run along the west side of U.S. 2/7 outside of the I-89 bridge piers under lane closures
Work progresses on the retaining walls on either side of U.S. 2/7. These retaining walls will allow for the construction of the proposed pedestrian and bicycle connections through the interchange.
LOCATION: U.S. Routes 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) in Colchester starting at the Winooski town line and continuing north for 1.05 miles to Sunderland Woods Road.
