JJ Collins Marine Park Clean Up and Repair - 2022

This years Clean Up was the most involved for the NOTS and GBYC groups in many years. MCYC was also on hand with volunteers. It not only involved clearing the trails, but also new wood for all the picnic tables and a long overdue pressure washing of the docks and the ramp. Please - when you see a NOTS or GBYC member thank them for not only this years work, but all the years that they volunteer to keep this beautiful cruise destination in great shape. We all benefit from their commitment each year.

For the complete article and more pictures see the excellent writeup by Doug Vandecoevering of NOTS who was the leader of the project HERE.

Special Thanks to Rocky Pointe Marina and Dahlgren's Building Supplies for their help in the selection and delivery of the needed supplies.

2023 Cruise Schedule Submission Date/Time Changes

New Date is September 1st at 12 Noon!

In our recent Standing Committee Meeting we talked about some changes for the future that we feel will help make the process smoother for all. The new date for submissions will be September 1st, and the new time will be 12 Noon. We feel it will give incoming Bridges more opportunity to be involved in the clubs cruise destinations. Jolene Walsh will again be leading the effort this year. If you have any questions for Jolene she can be reached at cruise_coordinator@crya.us

America's Boating Channel Launches

NAVIGATING INLETS

Video Premiere Sets Stage for New Inlet Drone Videos Service Offering

Raleigh, NC, 15 July 2022 – The fifth video in America’s Boating Channel's™ sixth season of boating safety and boater education videos, "NAVIGATING INLETS," will debut this Saturday morning July 16 at 9 AM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

The new title will be featured on AmericasBoatingChannel.com, America's Boating Channel on YouTube, and across online social media as a follow-on to the video service’s Operation Dry Water promotional campaign, which showcased boating-under-the-influence (BUI) prevention videos over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

"NAVIGATING INLETS" covers the fundamentals of crossing major waterway entrances. Viewers will learn how to prepare for departing and returning through challenging inlets. Also featured are tips for maneuvering safely and warnings about hazards.

The new video exclusively features members of the Great South Bay, Jones Beach, and Patchogue Bay Power Squadrons with special thanks to Sea Tow Shinnecock / Moriches.

"NAVIGATING INLETS" will also be featured in America’s Boating Channel’s “INLET DRONE VIDEOS” video service offering. The new series will provide narrated aerial video coverage of high-traffic US waterway entrances to help recreational boaters prepare for their first sorties through high-traffic waterway entrances. Filming was recently completed at Cape Fear, NC, the first inlet to be covered in the new video service offering. To learn more, email INFO@AmericasBoatingChannel.com.

America’s Boating Channel’s sixth season of videos, which are premiering throughout the 2022 boating season, includes “FIRE EXTINGUISHER REGULATIONS,” “TRAILERING A BOAT,” “DEFENSIVE BOATING,” “ELECTRONIC CHARTS AND VIRTUAL ATONS,” COMMERCIAL TRAFFIC,” “LIFE JACKET WEAR,” “BOAT OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITIES,” "NAVIGATING INLETS," “ELECTRONIC VISUAL DISTRESS SIGNALS,” and “CAPACITY COMPLIANCE.”

WOOO and CRYA members Testified at a recent Oregon State Marine Board Meeting to press the case for increased Abandoned and Derelict Vessel Removal to at least $500,000.  It has been at $150,000 per Biennium for many years which doesn't begin to touch the needs of the problem.  See the letter written to the OSMB from WOOO HERE

Public Comment Opportunity: Proposed Restrictions to Public Use of Hayden

Island Segment

The Department of State Lands is seeking public comment on a proposed rule (OAR 141-088-0240) to restrict public use of approximately 500 yards of riverbank along the Columbia River on the north side of Hayden Island.

The restrictions are proposed between river mile 106 and 107, east of a navigational pile dike and west of the I-5 Columbia River Interstate bridge. The proposed rule would close this segment of the riverbank to all uses between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Campfires and camping would be prohibited at all times.

The riverbank segment is surrounded by privately owned land and can only be legally accessed by water. If the proposed rules are adopted, the riverbank would remain open and accessible from the water for legal uses during the day.

The rulemaking seeks to reduce impacts to the health and safety of the river, following numerous reports of unsafe activities, including unauthorized and uncontrolled fires, threats of violence, abandoned shopping carts and vehicles, and trash.

How to Comment :

Public comments on the proposed rules can be provided during an online public meeting on August 15 at 5:30 p.m. Meeting links and call-in information are on the DSL website.

Comments in writing may also be emailed to dsl.rules@dsl.oregon.gov or mailed to

DSL a

775 Summer Street NE, Suite 100

Salem, OR 97301

The comment deadline is August 31.
