RALEIGH POLICE DEPARTMENT LUNCH

On August 15, our clothing ministry team sponsored the lunch for the Downtown District of the “Adopt a District Program” for the Raleigh Police Department. Carol Blanchard, Mary Powell Rhodes, and Sabrina Tyndall made brownies, toll house cookies, fresh peach cobblers, and even brought mandarin oranges as delicious dessert options to top off a meal of BBQ, buns, slaw and baked beans from our And with 'Cue food truck. Mary Powell, Sabrina, and Bobby Phillips delivered the lunch and spent time connecting with the officers as they discussed ways the officers could provide a positive resource to our clothing ministry clients. The officers are working with the clothing ministry planning team to offer to come once a month during clothing ministry hours to be available for any questions and concerns our clients might have. - Nancy Moore Phillips, Adopt-a-District Coordinator
CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL

On a recent Sunday morning, our grade schoolers reenacted the Festival of Booths, their Sunday School lesson for that day. They built temporary shelters in the garth, prepared seasonal food to share, and invited part of their community (our threes class and our middle schoolers) to join in celebrating God’s goodness!
Meanwhile, our preschoolers were busy in their classrooms exploring centers and playing with their favorite things, learning that church is a place where they’ll be cared for and loved.
How thankful we are for our wonderful leaders who work with our children each and every Sunday! To show our appreciation, on Wednesday, August 23, at 5:30pm, we’re having a dinner and meeting in room 301 for our children’s Sunday School teachers to get ready for our new year. We can’t wait to start a new year of Sunday School with our children!

Also, we are needing a few more church members to serve in Extended Session, providing top-quality nurture and care for our preschoolers during worship either in the classroom or as coordinators. The commitment is once per quarter just four times a year. If you are interested, please contact Lynn Lingafelt.
JAPANESE CHURCH
LUNCH & BAZAAR

Our Japanese church will be hosting a lunch and bazaar this Sunday, August 27, immediately following worship in the fellowship hall. The cost for a traditional Japanese lunch is $10, no tickets or RSVP required. Please make plans to join us for a delicious meal with all proceeds supporting the work of our Japanese congregation!

CENTERPOINT
THIS FALL

We are excited about the return of Centerpoint on Wednesday, September 6! While we enjoy the different rhythms of summer life, we always look forward to gathering again on Wednesdays, reconnecting with each other, and being challenged by creative programming for all ages. We will follow the same schedule as last year, which is listed below. After discussion among the ministerial staff and with deacon leadership and the Adult Ministries Council, we have decided to continue offering a Zoom option for church conferences, but not for regular adult programs. Adult programming will begin with a look at what has been happening with buildings downtown. Our own Bob Talley will start us off on September 6 with an update on changes with state government buildings.
Adult Wednesday Night Schedule:
5:15-6:15pm - Supper line is open
6:15-6:30pm - Prayer time and announcements
6:30-7:15pm - Adult program

RISE AGAINST HUNGER
MEAL-PACKING EVENT

We have the money to buy the supplies. We have the lunch to feed the volunteers. Now all we need is YOU to come help us pack 10,000 meals! Please make plans to join us on Sunday, September 17 at 12:15pm in the Fellowship Hall. The 10,000 meals we pack this year will bring our church record to 100,000 meals. What a great accomplishment we will celebrate, as we do our part to stop hunger here and around the world. But, we need 60 volunteers to help make it happen! Bring your family or bring a friend - all are welcome!

There’s a job for everyone. Standing, sitting, running (for the youngest) and even ringing the gong! The choice is yours. Please RSVP to Nancy Moore Phillips by Wednesday, September 13.
CLOTHING MINISTRY UPDATES

The repairs to our clothing ministry space are moving along as scheduled! Thus, we will reopen our clothing ministry to guests on Monday, September 11, at 10am as planned. To prepare for our reopening, we will once again start receiving donations at the back door clothing bin on Wednesday, August 30. If you have a large donation (more than 45 kitchen sized garbage bags' worth), please email Sabrina and she will schedule a time with you for drop-off.

CHILDREN'S
CLOTHING DRIVE

For our churchwide August mission project, we'll be collecting children's clothing for the clothing ministry. As we approach cooler temperatures and back-to-school shopping, this is a time when we can give directly to families in our community who are in need of our support. When you're shopping or cleaning out your closets, please consider donating any children's clothing items during the month of August! Below, we have a specific list of the most needed sizes and items, but anything you are able to give is very much appreciated. All of these donations may be placed in the Lewis Lobby drawers. We are grateful for your continued support of this vital community ministry.

Children's Clothing Wish List:
• Boys & girls: sizes 2T4T, summer & fall
• Boys & girls: sizes extra small (youth 4) medium (youth 10/12), summer & fall
• Teen boys (adult sizing, teen style): sizes small-large, summer & fall
• Children's shoes: sizes 613 (toddler), closed-toe preferred
• Children's shoes: sizes 13, closed-toe preferred
TEMPORARY ENTRANCE TO THE SANCTUARY

The construction work to repair the front steps of our sanctuary is underway. Since the main sanctuary doors will be inaccessible for a few weeks, you may enter through the side entrance of the sanctuary, on the corner of Salisbury & Edenton Streets (pictured here, circled in yellow). As always, the back parking lot doors and the Edenton Street doors will be open for Sunday School, and locked at 11:05am. If you are coming in for worship after 11:05am, please use the side entrance of the sanctuary. We appreciate your patience as we make this necessary fix to our building! If you have any questions, please contact Wayne Hager.
