JANUARY - ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

Sarah Phan

When Sarah reflects on her learning journey, she cannot remember a time when she didn’t love exploring new ideas.  She remembers doing Khan academy for fun; she loved that math could be gamified and was motivated by the challenge of learning new concepts quickly.  Sarah started meeting the challenge of the high school curriculum in middle school.  She was ranked at the state level in the Honeywell chemistry challenge in both 7th and 8th grade.  It’s not common that a 9th grader comes to us with a “background in chemistry”  but Sarah had just that.  She entered Maine East ready for AP Calculus BC and AP Chemistry, a schedule that had never been taken by a 9th grader before.  Sarah has gone on to excel in the most rigorous course offerings, never achieving less than a “5” on an AP exam.

NEWS FROM ATHLETICS

Congratulations to the Maine East POMS team!!

The Maine East Demon Squad set a new bar for excellence, truly sweeping the competition at their annual home competition! The team took home the first place trophy in the kick category, third in contemporary and both 1st and 2nd out of 13 in the IHSA category—chockful of oft-state-qualifying teams!!! Their high scores locked in their bids for IDTA State.

To top it off, head captain Lana Coralic scores high with yet again a state-qualifying score for her contemporary solo, and breakaway dancer Bianca Adorable is judge-selected as a Rising Star, being one of only 9 of the 500 dancers to earn that distinction!

Come out to Vernon Hills this Friday to see them battle it out for a CSL title!!!

Good luck Demon Squad and congrats on your continuing success!!
