Meet the Staff!

Ariel Nearhood has been the RSVP Program Coordinator for Seneca, Wyandot, and Huron Counties since 2017. With a background in newspaper reporting, web development, and public relations, Ariel dove head first into the nonprofit sector and has loved every minute of it. It’s the volunteers and community members that she gets to interact with every day that she enjoys most. As well as finding new and creative ways to connect individuals and organizations to each other, so that they can better serve their communities together.

A new mom, Ariel spends her free time watching her little boy grow up too fast and visiting national and state parks with him and her husband, Ryan.

RSVP Across Ohio

Ashtabula County

On May 9, Ashtabula County RSVP appreciated volunteers and community members who support us throughout the year. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal, networking and friendship. We all listened to a beautiful message about kindness brought to us by Lisa Barrickman, author of A Case for Kindness: 40 Ways to Love and Inspire Others.

The Crawford County Community Garden located in Galion is getting ready for another season of growing! This season with the help of volunteer Sam Frey, we have been given a water holding tank that will remain on site for the purpose of regular watering throughout the summer. This will be a huge help for volunteers working the garden and will eliminate the need to haul water daily from another source. Thanks so much to Sam for donating the tank, hose connectors, and for building the stand that the tank is now sitting on!

Earlier this summer our AmeriCorps Seniors #PortageRSVP volunteers and the Homework Buddies kids celebrated the end of the school year in partnership with Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority. RSVP volunteers, Ms. Patti and Ms. Laura, received a very heartwarming & thoughtful THANK YOU from PMHA staff and the kids; showing appreciation for all the volunteers did this school year!! Our newest volunteer, Betty, also joined the party as she enjoys being around children and would like to support this site moving forward.

We are seeking additional folks to join Ms. Patti, Ms. Laura, and Ms. Betty in spending just a few hours a week with this great group of kids, at this location and two others in Ravenna/Kent.

Wyandot, Seneca & Huron

RSVP of Seneca County hosted their very first Volunteer Fair on May 17 at the Allen Eiry Center. Over 12 partner agencies were in attendance at the fair recruiting volunteers for their specific organization. Doughnuts, coffee, and other refreshments were provided. It was a great turn out and everyone had a lot of fun, while hearing about how to give back around Seneca County. A big thank you to our sponsors, partner agencies, and everyone who came out that helped make it a huge success!

Senior Support Action Group

The Senior Support Action Group (SSAG) took a leap to expand into Jefferson County. While the program has been developed in Columbiana and Mahoning Counties, the goal is to now expand into Jefferson County, starting with inner-city Steubenville. SSAG program manager Paige Fortner and RSVP Coordinator of Jefferson County, Marti Leake, had the chance to solidify the partnership with the Salvation Army, in order to bring SSAG services to Jefferson County. The Senior Support Action Group continues to seek out volunteers and clients in the Jefferson County area.
