The 2022 elections have been completed and counted and the winners are:

We wish to extend our collective thanks and appreciation to Glen Hascall for his service in the Chair rotation for the past 6 years, and also to Kylie Johnson for her 4 years of service as Treasurer. We would also like to thank Caroline Valentine and Lynn Kempter for stepping up to run for office. We, the electors, had a great slate of highly qualified candidates to choose from.
We also welcome Diane Hould as our new membership chair, and Julie Hunziker as our new Washington state chair.

I am so happy to take on the Washington State Chair position for Area 10 and be part of our board. I look forward to working with our wonderful leaders. And I look forward to connecting with ringers around the great state of Washington!
A little about myself:
I grew up in Seattle and Tacoma, Washington and attended the University of Washington, majoring in Kinesiology. I also met my husband, who was from Yakima. I was not a musician. Two years of piano lessons didn't qualify. When we relocated to Phoenix, AZ, I was asked to join the bell choir. Sorry, I'm not a musician. When we moved to Redding, CA and bell rehearsals were starting in the fall, my neighbor invited me. Sorry, I'm not a musician. That didn't fly with her..."Anybody can ring bells!" And I was hooked. That was 1993. I rang for 22 years in Redding and I blossomed as a musician. I became the ultimate bell addict, playing in duets and quartets during the "off season." Our bell choir enjoyed attending festivals, even traveled to Norfolk, VA in 2004 for the National Conference. At one such festival, I took a bell tree class from Barbara Brocker and a whole new world was opened to me. However, the penultimate experience came in 2011 when we traveled to Lutherstadt-Wittenburg in Germany to help the Castle Church start a handbell choir. We led workshops, played in two worship services, and gave a concert in the Castle Church. Quite the experience! In 2014, my husband's job relocated us back to Yakima, where I connected with a couple of bell choirs. However, my church did not have an active group despite having 5 octaves of bells and 3 octaves of handchimes. Our chancel choir director tried to direct bells for Christmas and Easter, but when she retired, the bells were only played when I would play my bell tree or recruited a friend to play a duet. Finally, I took the bold step in 2020 to direct a group for the Easter season, only to see us shut down with Covid. Since opening back up, I have worked to recruit and retain a small group and have stepped into the role of director/facilitator of Bells of Grace. And I now call myself a musician.

The Area 10 Board of Directors developed an award program to honor those who have
given an extra effort to the advancement and promotion of handbell and handchime ringing in
Area 10. Nominations for this award will be accepted until June 1, 2023 and the award will be presented at the June 16-18 Area 10 Conference in Spokane, WA.
Past recipients include Marcy Winters, Bobbie Benjamin, Marlene Anderson, Blanche Kangas and Nancy Hascall.
Nominees (living or deceased) should:
- have made outstanding contributions to the art of ringing in Area 10. This should include
an extended time commitment in activities that greatly exceed normal expectations or
are generally perceived as significant.
- be an active member of Handbell Musicians of America or if deceased, have been a
member in good standing.
- have performed leadership roles at local, state and/or Area 10 levels.
- not be currently serving on the Area 10 Board of Directors.

My life Away from Bells: Is mostly swimming. I am a swim instructor at La Petite Baleen Swim Schools located in the Bay Area. At LPB I also work as a deck supervisor overseeing all of the classes, providing feedback to the teachers and ensuring overall safety. I've been there just long enough to see my toddlers from 2 years ago now swimming in the deep end and diving down 6ft to the bottom of the pool for toys. I think that's kind of cool. Also in my spare time, I moderate for a few friends who stream on Twitch. Twitch is a website where you broadcast or stream content you want to share with others. Whether it's a video game, or you're hosting a game show, singing, or even just chatting. And as a moderator I mostly make sure the viewers are behaving in chat. I also assist the streamer with other tasks as well. I started moderating during the beginning of the pandemic and it's been a fun experience. I learned a lot about streaming culture and the really great communities that exist within it.

As the wider handbell community begins to gather again, Siskiyou Summit is back with a restart in 2023. As we all get back into the swing of rehearsals and live performances, I have decided to restart the event with a one day Massed Ring/Workshop format. Tim Waugh will still be our Conference Guest Conductor leading the full group in Massed Ringing. The repertoire list can be found below. It is revised from 2020 but is still exploring Fascinatin’ Rhythms. Join us for a Spring Day full of wonderful music and learning opportunities as we celebrate our extended handbell family.
Event Registration is $65/person by March 1st, after March 1st $75/person. Registration will open January 1, 2023. You don’t need a full choir to participate, Partial Choirs and “Orphans” are welcome to attend.
REPERTOIRE—accessible and suitable for use in Worship. All pieces have the optional addition of percussion and other instrumentation.
