Thank you for helping Georgina tackle the winter weather

It’s been a winter for the books. Georgina has faced a significant amount of snow this winter season, with more than 240 centimetres so far. A big thank you to the Town's winter operations crews, who have worked around the clock to ensure the roads and sidewalks are safe for use. A special thank you to residents who helped tackle the snowfall by clearing fire hydrants and keeping parked cars off the streets. To learn more about winter operations, visit georgina.ca/snow.

Shop Local

The Town is encouraging you to Shop Local and support buying Canadian whenever possible. Did you know? When you shop at small businesses, you’re doing more than spending money – you’re supporting local entrepreneurs and your community as a whole. So whether you are dining at your favourite restaurant or shopping for the perfect gift, every purchase makes a big difference. To explore local businesses and resources available to support local, visit choosegeorgina.ca.

Safe Streets Monitoring

To improve road safety, the Town has developed a Safe Streets Policy which includes a speed limit monitoring program. The Safe Streets Monitoring Program will use Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras with the goal of encouraging posted speed limit compliance and increasing overall safety for the community. Five cameras are being installed – one in each ward – in Community Safety Zones. The cameras will become operational beginning April 10. Check out the video and meet Shelly, the Town’s Safe Streets for Safe Use mascot. Learn more about automated speed cameras at georgina.ca/SafetyCameras.

Citizen Satisfaction Survey

Every day the Town delivers services that residents rely on. This includes everything from recreation programs and road maintenance to building permits and the upkeep of public spaces. Each household will have received a card in the mail recently asking to complete a survey. Your feedback is key to helping us improve the services we deliver. Multiple members of a household over age 18 can participate as long as they use different cell phones to receive their unique survey link. Provide your feedback by March 30 for a chance to win one of three $250 gift certificates to a local Georgina business. To learn more or find out what to do if you've misplaced your survey card, visit georgina.ca/CitizenSurvey.

Daylight Saving Time

It’s almost time to spring forward! The clocks go ahead one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, as we make the change to Daylight Saving Time. As you change your clocks, remember to change the batteries in your smoke and CO alarms.

Ice conditions reminder

Warmer temperatures and melting snow and ice mean higher water levels. A reminder to residents to help keep ditches, culverts, drains and catch basins free of any debris to prevent possible flooding. Water courses will be flowing higher than normal causing local streams and rivers to become dangerous, especially near culverts and bridges. Children and pets should stay away from all watercourses. A reminder – fish huts must be removed from the lake by March 15. For more information, visit georgina.ca/fire.

Load restrictions on Town roads

Every spring, between March 1 and May 15, there is a load restriction to five tons per axle on Town roads. The reason for the load restriction is that with the warmer weather, the roads become soft, and vehicles travelling with loads larger than the limit could potentially cause damage.
