This Saturday’s (September 17th) Fall Community Meeting and FIPPOA Board Elections

Dear Karen,

Our community comes together twice each year to discuss important issues facing the Pines and to review the many different projects FIPPOA is undertaking to address them. We will also be electing four FIPPOA directors and all four of our executive officers. You will have the opportunity to hear from each of the candidates before ballots are cast.

After the election, we will highlight several recent and future projects undertaken by FIPPOA to address opportunities and challenges facing the Pines. As is customary, the meeting will conclude with an open microphone for anyone to ask questions or share thoughts.

We begin at 10AM with breakfast pastries and coffee. The meeting will start promptly at 10:30AM on the Albert Lepage Pavilion at Whyte Hall. Check out the agenda and reports issued by local Pines organizations.

All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

Fundraiser for Brookhaven Town Councilman Neil Foley

Later that same Saturday afternoon (September 17th), The FIPPOA Political Action Committee (PAC) will host a fundraiser for Neil at the home of Chris and Teresa Lovito, 286 Bay Walk at 4PM sharp.

Neil has been our Councilman for the past 8 years and has proven himself time and again to be a true friend and supporter of the Pines. There are approximately 500,000 permanent residents in Brookhaven, the Pines therefore being a tiny drop in the overall bucket. The time and effort that Neil places in representing the Pines is outsized to our population, even more so when considering so few of us are registered to vote locally.

It is imperative to turn out, show our support, and highlight as many important issues as possible where Brookhaven may be influential. If you have interest in recycling, garbage removal, or anything else within Brookhaven’s governance structure, it would be useful for Neil to hear from you directly.

Suggested contributions are $200 per person and may be paid by check or credit card upon arrival. You may also make your payment in advance or consider a contribution if you are unable to attend to FIPPOA’s PAC by using this link

Pines Conservation Society – Every year, the PCS hosts a talk and tour highlighting one of the natural ecosystems of the Pines. This year’s entitled, “The Meatrack: Revealed” will take place Saturday, September 24th from 10AM to 1PM beginning with a moderated panel discussion at Whyte Hall followed by a tour of, well guess where? Space is limited and will sell out, so please get your tickets now.

Filming in the Pines

The Pines continues to grab significant attention in the media, including requests to film both large and small screen productions. If you have not already noticed, you may soon see film crews working in the Pines. The Ryan Murphy show, “American Horror Story,” is filming its 11th season with a plotline that is an expansion and revisioning of the 1981 cult film "Cruising.”

While filming over the next ~2 weeks is set to take place primarily in private homes, there will be instances of filming in public spaces.  You may also notice that during harbor filming, some contemporary markers, such as the Trailblazers Park flags, will be temporarily removed or covered up.

Save the Date:  I am pleased to announce that our annual FIPPOA Community Closing Party will be held at Whyte Hall on Saturday, October 22nd, 5PM to 7PM, at Whyte Hall. More information to come.

Post Office Closing Date

Speaking of closings, Saturday, Oct 15th will be last day the post office is open. Packages and mail received after that date will be returned to sender.

See you Saturday!
