Winter Springs Celebrates Their Principles of Public Service Program
Congressman Cory Mills visited the WSHS Principles of Public Service Program, where Mr. Silagyi and his impressive students showcased their incredible program!
The Public Service Academy Program of Emphasis at Winter Springs High School provides students with the opportunity to explore and advance their knowledge in three exciting and important fields within the public service sector. Each path is designed to engage students in an in-demand field, giving students the opportunity for hands-on learning that can be applied to their future career goals. Students can earn industry certifications and develop the skills necessary to earn employment in these important career fields.
This visit was made possible thanks to the coordination of SCPS district leaders, the SCPS Foundation, and of course the hard-working staff on campus. Thank you Congressman Mills and his team for visiting.

SCPS Behavior Interventionist Receives Humanitarian Award
Markham Woods Middle School Behavior Interventionist, Patrice Anderson, MA, PhD, was nominated by the City of Sanford’s Martin Luther King Steering Committee as the Humanitarian of the year for 2023.
It was a unanimous vote by the committee based on her 22.5 years of service in the city of Sanford as a mentor, advisor, and community leader. She has volunteered in the City of Sanford as a board member for Goldsboro Front Porch, runs a mentoring program for the city, as well as mentored countless youth and adults in the city. The committee believes that her multiple years of service "epitomize what Dr. King stood for with this work being behind the scenes mostly without pay or reward."

The new campaign of SCPS Educational Pathways (ePathways) What’s Your e? encourages students of all ages to explore multiple paths to becoming productive citizens. With the support of parents, families, school personnel and members of the Seminole County community, students will witness the full scope of opportunity that exists beyond graduation from high school.
In an elementary classroom, exploring enrollment, employment, and enlistment might come in the form of exposure by participating in events such as “Teach-In,” reading non-fiction texts related to diverse careers, or engaging in reflective class discussions and presentations that encourage thoughtful charting of a course to middle school programs/courses of interest.
For middle school students, a personal sense of urgency to answer the question, "What’s Your e?" naturally begins to grow-especially though career exploration courses and increased exposure to varied disciplines.
Finally, as high school looms and students’ unique skills and interests begin to take shape, exploration of unique career opportunities and pathways is critical in fostering students’ development and in ensuring post-secondary success. The "e" that becomes visible may even include multiple pathways.
Recognizing the exploration of a student’s e at every level, K-12, is the goal of ePathways’ What’s Your e? campaign. Be on the lookout for more regarding What’s Your e?
