A Message from the Founder & Presidents
Dear AGA Community,
As we embrace the crisp autumn air and the warmth of the upcoming Thanksgiving festivities, we wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. Your unwavering support and dedication to Adopt a Golden Atlanta continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of our beloved golden retrievers.
This fall, as the leaves change and we gather with loved ones, I am reminded of the incredible community we have built together. Your passion for our mission has created a haven for countless golden retrievers in need. The tireless efforts of our volunteers, donors, and supporters truly make AGA a home filled with love and compassion.
As we approach Thanksgiving, let us reflect on the joy these Goldens bring to our lives and the lives of their future forever families. It is with a heart full of thanks that we reach out to you, our AGA family, to ask for your continued support.
Our dogs often come to us in need of medical care, and your generous donations allow us to provide them with the necessary treatment. This November, we are launching a special campaign to raise funds for their medical expenses. Your contribution will directly impact the well-being of these deserving pups, ensuring they receive the care they need to thrive.
In addition to financial support, we are also in desperate need of fosters. Opening your heart and home to a golden in need is a truly rewarding experience. Fostering saves lives and plays a vital role in our mission to find loving forever homes for these wonderful dogs.
As we give thanks for the blessings in our lives, let's come together once again to make a difference in the lives of those who cannot speak for themselves. Your generosity, whether through donations or fostering, makes a world of difference.
Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving filled with warmth, gratitude, and the joy of knowing you've made a difference in the lives of our furry friends.
With heartfelt thanks,
Lauren & Patti

Tips for a Happy, Healthy and
Humane Thanksgiving
| |
Yes, Thanksgiving is a special day, and while you might want to share some of your holiday feasts with your Golden, think twice about what it is. This article from the ASPCA outlines what you should avoid feeding your precious pooch (and a few things that you can).
On average, humans spend $185.80 or more to take care of a pet's upset stomach over the Thanksgiving weekend than on other days.

Call for Fosters - Please help?
We are issuing an URGENT PLEA for Fosters. Our capacity is stretched and we need to create space for Goldens in shelters and those needing new homes. Becoming a foster could mean saving a life, and that's a legacy worth leaving!

My family gave me up to AGA so I could find a new home. I am just too energetic for them. Anyone carrying a ball or a toy is my best friend! I know my house manners, and I am just 18 months old and I am a big guy at 66 pounds! I love to eat socks (don’t ask why) and to pull the stuffing out of toys. Once I ate a certain kind of dog food and it got stuck in my insides. Ugh, that was not fun!
The vet said I was a handsome boy but a little jittery on my first trip there. The second trip was better! I know how to stay in a crate (certainly not a fun place) and like the company of older kids.

Check Your Dog Once A Month on the 14th!
Facts about Cancer in Dogs
Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.
It is important that you start your fight against canine cancer and any other health issue from the day you bring your dog home. Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog. We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Checking your dog will be a great little bonding time with your dog. If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.
| |
Now how exactly do you do this?
Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.

🐾 Dog Events in Atlanta 🐾
When you want to really spoil your dog, or just meet other dog owners who are as crazy about their pets as you, there’s no better place to Bring Fido than a dog event. Attend any of the dog shows, agility competitions, costume parades, festivals or fundraisers on our Dog Events Calendar and you’ll meet, hundreds maybe even thousands, of dog lovers. And since 70% of the events listed benefit humane societies, attending one is a great way to help homeless pets too.

Golden Retriever:
WHAT IS YOUR DOG SAYING?
| |
Barks, growls, howls, whines, and whimpers - your dog is talking to you, and he's got a lot to say! Is it a distress bark or a plea to play? What is the sound of pain vs. boredom?
Check out this article from The Whole Dog Journal to learn more about your dog's vocal communication.
