The 2023 Saskatchewan Library Week poster features the name of the event and a variety of images that highlight the theme of "Libraries Create Community." The poster has purple, black, and white font on a bright green background.

It is officially October, and that means Saskatchewan Library Week (SLW) is just around the corner!

SLW runs from October 15-21, and the theme this year is "Libraries Create Community."

SLA has a number of SLW promotional resources available on our website for you and your library, including a colourful poster (pictured on the right) and some social media graphics. Anyone is free to download and use these resources to promote SLW. Encourage your patrons to think about how their library creates community, and take this discussion online using #SKLibraryWeek.

Please note that SLA will not be mailing out SLW posters this year. We encourage libraries to download and print off the PDF poster available on our website.

SLA Seeking Presenters for 2024 Conference

SLA is now accepting session proposals for the 2024 Saskatchewan Libraries Conference.

Are you knowledgeable in an area that your colleagues are always asking you about? Do you know how to run a great program? Have you found a solution to a unique library problem? We want to hear your expertise!

The theme for this year's conference is "Libraries Create Community," inviting us to explore the many ways that libraries build, enhance, and empower their communities. Some of the ways that the SLA Conference Program Committee sees libraries creating community are:

  • Developing library collections or services that reflect and support our province’s diverse communities;
  • Creating relevant communities of practice for library workers;
  • Library students sharing research projects with the broader library community;
  • Providing instruction to create information-literate citizens in our communities; and,
  • Gathering community in reconciliation and decolonization initiatives.

Have an idea for a presentation? We’d love to hear from you! The deadline to submit your session proposal is Nov. 17, 2023.

The 2024 Saskatchewan Libraries Conference will take place May 1-3, 2024 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Regina. All conference sessions will be held in-person at the conference venue. Submissions from within Saskatchewan and outside the province are welcome.

Share Your Library Story Survey

SLA's Advocacy & Development Committee has created a survey to be shared with companies, organizations, or institutions that partner with libraries or rely on libraries for product or service delivery in some way.

The purpose of this survey is to gather responses from a wide range of organizations and companies that highlight the value Saskatchewan’s libraries bring to many sectors. These responses will be used in SLA’s advocacy efforts to promote libraries across the province during Saskatchewan Library Week and beyond.

Does your library have any business or organizational partners? We invite you to send them the survey link (using the button below) to add their voice to why libraries matter.

CFLA Copyright Committee Update

At the June 2023 meeting, the CFLA Copyright Committee discussed the following:

  • A sub-group of the Copyright Committee wrote a response to recent op-eds in the Globe & Mail and Hill Times titled "Don't Blame Copyright for Declining Revenue. It Won't Help Authors"
  • Ebook collaboration with CULC is seeking to explore new avenues in different provinces such as B.C. and Saskatchewan for a further route for ebook licensing reform as Ontario has, for the time being, declined to address this matter in their Consumer Protection legislation
  • Accessibility Working Group's Reasonable Search draft document has been reviewed by interested parties, including publishers and accessibility organizations. Feedback will be considered and incorporated.
