New CCF Faculty Affiliate Dr. Pumpki Lei Su
|
Dr. Pumpki Lei Su recently joined the faculty of the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at UT Dallas and is a new faculty affiliate of the Center for Children and Families. She will be joining other faculty affiliates in working with this year's cohort of CCF's National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduate student fellows. Dr. Su's research focuses on language development and caregiver-child interaction in children with autism spectrum disorder and bilingual children. She is particularly interested in child behaviors that lead to strong adult language input and in cultural variations in caregiver-child interactions. Dr. Su received her PhD in hearing and speech sciences from Vanderbilt University and completed her postdoc training in bilingualism at the University of Delaware. She is a certified speech-language pathologist. Welcome Dr. Su!

The Fall semester has begun and the campus is alive with students, faculty, and staff back in full force. We have had many good discussions with our new REU students and they are excited to begin work in our Play With Me programs this week. We are back to a full Play With Me program schedule this Fall, operating 5 programs in Vickery Meadow, East Plano, and at UTD. Our developmental screenings continue for all children enrolled in Play With Me and for those identified by Catholic Charities of Dallas in need of an evaluation. We are supporting children, parents, and students as outlined in our mission. And, we are so glad to welcome new faculty like Dr. Su to make deeper community connections to the innovative research they are conducting. It is an exciting Fall!
