Fix the Grid Campaign Launch Tonight!!

From Fix the Grid

Our electric grid is run by the six New England state entity, ISO-New England. The multi-state Fix The Grid group is launching an exciting new campaign focused on overhauling the regional grid operator in the Northeast to make it more just, transparent, democratic, distributed, and renewable.

If this ideas intrigues you we would love to have you join us at the Fix the Grid Campaign Launch on Wednesday, January 11th at 6:30pm on Zoom!

Join us to get oriented to the campaign strategy, meet others involved in the effort, and then dig in on state-specific plans with fellow advocates from your state.

We'll be answering questions like:

  • Who's who in the regional grid and how do we make sense of the alphabet soup of acronyms?
  • What kind of change is needed to unlock a just, transparent clean energy transition?
  • What power do we have to make those changes a reality, and where do we focus our efforts?
  • How can all the states working together make this a successful campaign?

Please comment on Eversource "Reliability" Gas Pipeline for Springfield / Longmeadow

No matter where you live, opposition from all corners to this new gas pipeline at a time when we need to stop using fossil fuels is crucial

From Springfield Climate Justice Coalition

Eversource Gas has filed with the Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) for approval to build its proposed “Western Massachusetts Gas Reliability Project”. They want to build (1) a new “point of delivery (POD)” meter station in Longmeadow, (2) a new 16” 200 psi pipeline beneath the streets of Longmeadow into Springfield to (3) an upgraded regulator station in downtown Springfield.

On May 26th, Eversource filed with the EFSB in Docket No. EFSB22-05. On November 4th, the EFSB Hearing Officer issued a Notice of Adjudication and Public Comment Hearing defining only one “remote” public comment hearing to be held via Zoom on December 14, 2022 at 6:00pm for the project, and a public comment period that runs until 5pm on January 17, 2023.

Anything helps, even if it's just a one paragraph comment about concern for the Environmental Justice neighborhoods in the pipeline path; the fact that Massachusetts' 2050 Net Zero emissions mandate means we shouldn't be building more gas infrastructure; or concern over climate and emissions.

"Mythbusting your rising electric bill:
who's getting your money?"

Monday, January 23rd at 6:30pm on Zoom

With the help of experts across the region, we'll be digging in on where the money we pay goes, why bills are going up so much this winter, what our grid operator ISO-NE has to do with all of it, and where we go from here to achieve a more affordable, more accessible, and more accountable electric system.

Prices of electricity are skyrocketing this winter because our region depends too much on fracked gas for our power. The current system is unsustainable, harmful, polluting, and unnecessary. We know that cleaner alternatives exist.

The people who run our regional electric system, called ISO-New England, are keeping us hooked on fossil fuels and costing residents money. And the worst part is, we ratepayers who fund this whole system have no seat at the table! They make their decisions behind closed doors, without any accountability.

We're fed up with this system, and we want real transparency and clean energy now. We're calling on our new Governor Maura Healey to demand reform from ISO-New England:
