County Hosting Groundbreaking Ceremony on March 3 for Football Field Renovation at Solomon Calhoun Community Center

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of the Solomon Calhoun Community Center's football field. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 3, at 1300 Duval Street, St. Augustine. St. Johns County officials will be joined by the West Augustine Community Redevelopment Agency.

Parks and Recreation 2025 Summer Camp Lottery Open Until March 7

The St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department's online lottery for spots in its 2025 summer camp program is open until 9 p.m. on Friday, March 7. To handle the extremely high demand for spots in these camps, Parks and Recreation uses an online drawing system to randomly pick camp participants. Only children ages 5 (who have completed kindergarten) through 12 are eligible for spots in summer camp, and they must be St. Johns County residents.

Sammy McKinnon Receives Employee of the Year Honor

St. Johns County honored Road and Bridge Superintendent Sammy McKinnon with the Employee of the Year Award at its annual Service Awards Ceremony on Feb. 25, where nearly 200 employees received recognition for years of service, ranging from five to 40 years. Commissioners Krista Joseph, Ann Taylor, and Christian Whitehurst spoke at the ceremony to praise all of the employees for their dedication to serving the community. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to celebrate Sammy McKinnon’s recognition.

St. Johns County Supports Council on Aging's Groundbreaking Ceremony for $1.28 Million Shelter and Shade Project

St. Johns County Council on Aging (COA) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its Shelter and Shade capital improvement project on Feb. 20 at COA headquarters at 180 Marine Street, St. Augustine. The $1.28 million phase one of COA’s Shelter and Shade project will raise the elevation of the building entrance at 180 Marine Street, St. Augustine, and construct a covered portico and other improvements to provide shelter from the elements and ease of access for senior participants. The facility is home to COA’s Coastal Community Senior Center, the Sunshine Center, COA’s therapeutic adult daycare center, and COA administrative offices.

The St. Johns County Public Library System (SJCPLS) invites local businesses and organizations to participate in the upcoming career fair at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center (1300 Duval St., St. Augustine) on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event provides an opportunity for employers to connect with a diverse pool of job seekers and students from various fields, making it an ideal platform to promote job opportunities and foster professional relationships. Organizations interested in participating can confirm their spot by completing the online registration form by May 1.

Parks and Recreation to Host Press Conference and Kite Day for Autism Center Certification

On March 8 at 10 a.m., the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department will hold a press conference at Treaty Park, 1595 Wildwood Drive, St. Augustine, to celebrate being named a Certified Autism Center by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards. Along with the press conference, Parks and Recreation will host its annual Kite Day celebration on Treaty Park’s multipurpose field. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Alive Credit Union, the first 100 participants will get a free kite. Ice pops will be available for attendees, courtesy of Simply Healthcare Plans.
