When pets come into our care, they are not always in the best shape. In December, a handsome black and white long-haired cat was dropped off at someone’s house and did not want to leave. They brought him into our shelter, and we named him Marshmallow. Estimated to be around 3 years old, he appeared to be in pain and could not put weight on his back right leg. X-rays revealed a mid-femur fracture. Because of the support of friends like you, Marshmallow was able to have his leg amputated. This sweet boy didn’t miss a beat and found his forever home in February.

Shelter Pet Spotlight - Chewy
If you are looking for a giant, loveable ball of fur, Chewy is the dog for you! This 3-year-old Tibetian Mastiff came into our shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. He weighs around 115 lbs! Chewy loves every person he meets and is so gentle with children. He walks well on a leash, and his previous owner shared that Chewy loves boat rides and to go to the beach. Chewy did test positive for heartworm disease, but he would love to come home with you as a foster-to-adopt while undergoing his treatment. GMHS covers the cost of this life-saving care for him. Chewy can't wait to meet you! Come to Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society to meet him or call 804-693-5520 for more information!
Froggy came into our care with a condition called cherry eye in both eyes. The condition happens when a dog’s so-called third eyelid becomes swollen and red, resembling a cherry. Without surgery, Froggy would have had decreased tear production and would not be able to close his eyes fully. His surgery was a success and he has found his forever home!
Your generous donations ensure we are able to provide pets in need like Froggy with the extraordinary veterinary care they both need and deserve.
